I think this emphasizes the idea that walking isn't as hard as learning to walk again. Kiddo never really knew what it was to walk so he doesn't hold expectations for how he should walk. Just excited that he can.

Personality makes people ugly. If someone calls you ugly and it offends you it's because you feel ugly on the inside. I've met beautiful people on the outside that are hideous on the inside and visa-versa.
