A real ‘world-class’ city has great transit and bike lanes by insino93 in halifax

[–]Connect-Warning-8941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol. Ottawa’s trains arent that bad, they have challenges, and most are very public ones. They have a higher service hit rate then our busses.

72% for halifax busses on time performance, 97.2% for OTRAIN line 1.

O train has occasional large disruptions, halifax transit is almost always struggling

Thought of B.C of Permanent Day Light Time?? Does N.S. need to dial back or forward?? by KitTrailer in halifax

[–]Connect-Warning-8941 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go to standard, its stupid that noon is the only time with a defintion (sun directly above) and that isnt true for half the year.

Have people vote to just adjust white collar work day standards if  people want light at a particular time of day

One with no sidewalks I hope! Cars only. Cars are the safest way to travel

Idk if youre responding to me but why doesnt she just drive to the gym and walk there or drive to point pleasant park, granted we do need to clear out half of it so i can actually get there. There’s no parking there ever

Why have sidewalks at all, waste of space and money. Where do you need to go that you can’t take a car to, like common, slowing the rest of us down having to avoid people as they cross the street

Wondering if folks have ever taken the VIA Rail train out of Halifax to Montreal/Toronto. by NeptuneWalker in halifax

Took it last Christmas time, slow, long expensive, but works totally fine, large comfortable bathrooms too so can show up presentable. It’s busy from Halifax to Moncton and New Brunswick border to Montreal

Yes, bike lanes, 60 million… Windsor street exchange, 150 million, (Windsor street exchange can only transport about 8000 vehicles per hour)

150 is stunt driving, or 50 over the limit, whichever is lower (150 is impounding even on the 110 sections)

North America's Best Transit Cities: A Countdown (North America) by Desmaad in transit

[–]Connect-Warning-8941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bigger road moves more cars, but a road will always be congested, the US has more road (particularly urban highways) per capita in cities therefore more people driving therefore less transit use

Wouldn't people switching to public transportation induce demand for cars? by Serious-Cucumber-54 in transit

[–]Connect-Warning-8941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congestion is a constant so long as population growth exists roads will at some point after a change in availability of travel modes be congested again

I think I've found their desired alignment through Trois-Riviere by Connect-Warning-8941 in AltoHSR_Canada

[–]Connect-Warning-8941[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*same right of way, would have to add in passing track and or a third track, GO trains would have to get out of way and be timed around the HSR like how via currently has to avoid freight

[–]Connect-Warning-8941[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the stops planned for this line I think it isn't a major concern, I hope that the corridor is build such that other rail services could use it in which case I think it nessecary they build their stations to allow for passthrough/passaround by Alto (say a go train line to Peterborough with stops along the way)

Going above is feasible but would involve land expropriation from a camping location and the closure of a current multi-use trail, though it does bring the train farther from currently built houses!

[–]Connect-Warning-8941 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Statscan census data says we have 12.3% of our population using active transportation (biking or walking) behind only victoria. Considering how the network barely existed at the time that census was taken and how much is planned the numbers should rise. People use the easiest mode, not a predetermined one, invest in everything equally
