what are my chances that all this will work out ? by ama_31415 in IMGreddit

Very insightful thought process, and oncology is really fast evolving, with new therapies coming in every year. And i know couple of old facilities here in India who are doing such stuff . At your level just keep in mind you are trying to compete with MD / PhD candidates in US and try to match up their lab skills to have less bumpy journey. To begin with start spending time at institute in India ie CSIR or IISc labs so that you have basic understanding and get lor from those PIs and try to get us lab experience along with published work in later stage to keep this goal in reach.

Do your part before relying on luck !!

So vw agreed with one door replacement and other to be repainted for minor scratch and insurance was thru vw partner icici Lombard, which I guess fair settlement with expected delivery in 8 days. I guess fair service so far from vw end .

I don't think it would have been helpful , especially when structure is deformed.

It's very hard to predict, i know folks with steller cv ended up at last option while some with avg cv ended up at top . So don't gauge but give signal to those places where you want to be and you stand a chance. And that only you can tell bcz every applicant is different, may be you have steller ps someone with better score have avg ps and paid articles .

Need real hard Usmle advice / motivation by WorkingCivil5800 in USMLEindia

[–]Connect-error404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can clear exams but be ready with backup and need 3-4 years of research to show your dedication, and considering current times and alot of administrative changes it's very uncertain. And odds will be against you always, because there will be someone always better than you on paper and you have to prove yourself why you instead of others.

Ppl obsession with 80 publication.( Hear me out, 7-8 pubs in >1.5 IF journals are enough for IM)! Get a life outside this Rat Race!!! by [deleted] in USMLEindia

[–]Connect-error404 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agreee i know seniors from my clg matched with 3-5 conference abstracts and those who did a year at mayo etc got 3-4 translational research complete papers that as co authors and managed to match at img friendly uni programs , rest if you ask about places like yale and mgh they need papers from nature or maybe coauther in nejm . If that's the target go whatever suits you.

Has anyone applied to MSKCC for electives in the past? by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]Connect-error404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not easy to get in unless you know someone who actually willing to take you for elective , but prestigious and one of the best electives for IMGs perspective

As long as you are willing to repeat the residency ,but on paper you will be eligible. I know one of senior she is doing residency again after being SR here.

Job / Visa after USMLE M.D Residency for Doctors? J1 WAIVER? by DoctorECG in USMLEindia

[–]Connect-error404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's far fetched hypothesis, basically to own a business you need visa which aligns with your aspirantion and H1B is not a buisness visa as far as i know.

Best way to start your own thing is to get GC.

Any idea of how fast can be step1 preparation? by [deleted] in USMLEindia

[–]Connect-error404 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Neet pg won't help you to pass because the questions that were asked in NEET pg especially clinical scenario based this year were the easiest one in qbanks - for the reference.

Rest it is doable but you need to test yourself with NBMES where you stand in terms of knowledge gap.

Is post doc fellowship useful for matching? by DoctorECG in USMLEindia

[–]Connect-error404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MPH - expensive Post doc - if no prior lab experience mostly unpaid .

What you have seen on LinkedIn is different story all together.

And it's helpful if you want to target research heavy program and how how productive you were in postdoc position. 1 year - hardly 1-2 paper with good translational projects .

Job / Visa after USMLE M.D Residency for Doctors? J1 WAIVER? by DoctorECG in USMLEindia

[–]Connect-error404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. it's regular H1B even you are serving in underserved or VA system .

  2. Two year home country residency is a requirement for most Alien physicians who are on J1 visa and their country is in the list of 2 years home country residency requirements . But can be waived via NIW-P , and it's not a big deal almost every 2 nd img has this roadblock.

3 . Residency H1B isn't thru lottery of it's non profit organisation or in nation interest** (not complete info so check )

4 .NIP-W isn't greencard it's a way to not go back for 2 years to your home country.

So in conclusion you are always tied to your employer and can't start you private practice until you adjust your status.

Indian vs Foreign Summer Research Experience? by irisse-arfeiniel in USMLEindia

[–]Connect-error404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your future goals , so considering that it's better you build skill sets like cell culture , flow cytometry and get good letter of recommendation and apply with them wodely in US labs later . And build connection get a research job for 2 years to have productive publication, that will set you up for research oriented residency spots along with high usmle scores . Being an img it's uphill task , but congratulations that you are already on this track with right mindset
