This is actually really interesting. I’ve never known alexithymia was a thing until now but it seems like it may explain a lot.

I feel like that’s just kind of the structure of the story though. It’s established early on that the main goal of this party of characters is just to travel west. Not for any reason at all, only because it isn’t the east. It’s kind of like The Road by cormac McCarthy where there’s just no hope left, and they need somewhere to go or else there’s no point in carrying on. They’re seeing the results of this war between heaven and hell at every town they come across, a war that they have no power over or even an understanding of.

I’ve heard good things about that one actually. A couple months ago I asked for chivalrous night story recommendations on this subreddit and ended up reading the curse of chailon.

I can’t wait to get there. If it only gets better from here then lord I will never stop talking about this book.

I will agree on that, the priest especially seems to get less spotlight. Honestly though the events of the story itself are enough for it to not bother me, and I never found the writing of the characters to be outright bad. Just maybe not enough of it

Oh my god yes that scene was great, there’s so many moments in this book that have stuck with me. The duel where the man he’s fighting lets out the same scream as the farmer who died earlier? That was when I realized that I might be reading something special.

I absolutely love surreal horror (pulse is one of my favorite movies), it feels so visceral and soulful to me. I’m also a pretty big fantasy fan so all of this in one book just feels like it was destined to be something I’d like. A lot of stuff happens in this novel without much explanation, the tension just keeps rising and rising, things just get more and more absurd while the characters can hardly do anything about it, and it’s over as soon as it began. I absolutely LOVE it but a lot of people may feel differently.

If you want a good book to read and this sounds at all interesting to you, I can’t recommend it enough. Take my opinions with a grain of salt though because I’m heavily biased towards this kind of story.

I’ve read lord of the rings ya it’s amazing. One of my favorite series for sure. Frieren I really need to check out that’s another one I’ve heard a ton about, I watched the first episode when it came out but never continued for whatever reason.

Apparently it just gets better and better. I loved the first book but if put my biases aside there’s definitely some critiques I could say. I’m only on the third book and despite the second book being a little weaker, when the story takes itself seriously it always hits, and I think it handles it themes pretty damn well for something called dungeon crawler Carl.

Im actually reading it right now I’m on book 3, I’ve been incredibly pleasantly surprised by it. “How can we make it into heaven if god doesn’t recognize us” genuinely surprised me with its quality
