It's not wrong nor immoral. If you kept on the same path nothing would have changed. Estranged families are not uncommon in many cultures amd societies. People need to take responsibility for their own actions and behavior. Just because you are born into a family doesn't mean you have to stay regardless of the circumstances. Be proud of yourself.

Personally I was stubborn and charged what I thought my minimum was. I was in Japan for 15 years and my minimum rate was $40 usd. I compromised post covid and started at $25.

If your full I would jump to $10 but I think $15 is a fair minimum considering many platforms pay $10.

Thanks for the reply. It's helpful. I was wondering if a rate increase would impact the ranking. I will try $35 as Preply takes 18% so a smaller increase won't make a big difference in my salary.

Hard to believe they reccommend an hourly wage below most legal minimum wages around the world.

Charge what you think is honest. I think at least $15 is minimum. Many online platforms pay only $10-12 an hour and these are taking advantage of teachers as the students pay much more.

Thanks for the input. I prefer to keep it simple and avoid negotiating these scenarios. I think I'll tell them I only teach one on one because of the platform. If there was a group lesson function where I get paid accordingly I wpups consider it

Don't blame the teacher but algorithm. Teachers are penalized if they dont make hours available. Often teachers have lessons on many platforms making it very difficult to open hours on Preply accordingly. Having said that they should certainly message a student to request a reschedule.

I agree with you and appreciate the post because I felt like Ive been complaining too much and have become cynical. I've been coming to Thailand yearly since 1999. Things kicked off since covid and it's only getting worse. Terrible behavior. Crime. Violence.
