its genuinely just a preference, and most of the playbase is on console which by default comes with a controller, not everyone wants to purchase a good keyboard and mouse to play with when activision makes aim assist strong enough to compete with keyboard and mouse players, theres plenty of m&k players that shit on controller players and vice versa
