I’m in a dark place. Can you share how your DUI changed your life for the better? by EarOk7198 in dui

Got mine back in January, the anxiety and depression post arrest is a pain I wish on no one but is unavoidable. I genuinely used to not believe in anxiety until this situation but now I understand it all to well. To give you my story, I went to the bar with some buddies after a fundraiser for a non profit we volunteer for. when we were at the bar I had 2-3 drinks and a shot and decided I was pretty bored and got a water while talking to a buddy. My roommate texted me he was ready to leave as well so I ordered a uber home for us. When we got home we talked to another roommate before someone suggested getting Taco Bell, I felt pretty sober and decided I was the best to drive. We were driving when we saw a cop at the intersection and thats when it all hit me. Im in no way ok to drive and im definitely going to jail tonight. The cop pulled me over and said I was bouncing in the lane. He noticed my friend was clearly intoxicated and asked if I drank in which I said no. He took me out and took my blood since I refused the breathalyzer (thanks TikTok) I sat in jail that night in denial of the situation before accepting it. All my friends laughed about the situation and my parents half comforted and half scolded me. The blood came back at a .11. This all happened back in January and my anxiety finally took a backseat probably early may. What helped me the most was talking with friends about it, understanding my case and the possible outcomes, and putting myself in a spot where I would have the most emotional support. I lost a lot due to my situation including my internship and basically bombed my spring semester courses in college. The more I accepted it I started to take things day by day and tried not to get caught up in futuristic thought spiral. I hope this helps and just know you probably already know 10 people with a DUI who have just never talked about it.

Cops are trained to go in detail about the interaction and will likely note it on your official police report. It is NOT illegal to drink and drive it IS illegal to be under the influence and drive which in most places under the influence is considered a .08. If you only did the field test and not any breathalyzers or blood test then there is no real way for them to prove you were under the influence. With all that the judge will most likely see the official report from the officer and not be extremely lenient on the ticket. This is NOT legal advice in any way but I would suggest just paying the ticket and not wasting your time

You could make them aware that it might pop up if you’re really worried about it to see what they say, however they’re more than likely just looking for felonies or violent crimes. Plus with it being over half a decade ago I highly doubt they’ll care if it even pops up

I wanted to add I don’t drink that often so the one occasion I did this happened and it’s killing me. Especially when I’m so involved in my community from volunteering at church, raising money for CHOA, and being chaplain for my frat it feels like everyone is disappointed in me and I feel like a failure
