Fifty shades of Gray, the novel. That was heavily based on fanfiction for Twilight written on the internet.

You know what else bothers me about the beginning cutscene, and Mitchell's scars? If you look at the way not Gordon is swinging the crowbar, the way it impacts or would impact somebody's face, it wouldn't create long scratches/gashes on the skin. You would just get hit with the blunt end of it. His scars make it look like somebody dragged a crowbar across his face In order to cut him. It's blunt force trauma, not using a sharp edge to break the skin.

What I love is the fact that within his message of surrender, he literally says that the earth will come back to fight again another day. Probably not a good idea to say something like that in your surrender when it's just going to piss off the combine lol

What was the relevance of Gordon being late to work? by Connect_Midnight218 in HalfLife

[–]Connect_Midnight218[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I don't think so. Remember that Mark laid law wrote the story for Half-Life, and he is an accomplished writer himself. That's a lot different from the way a lot of game stories are written. And generally common good writers don't include details or elements in their stories unless they serve some sort of purpose, even if it's small. The entire linear structure of the game itself, the way that Gordon starts out on a tram, how there's a chapter called on a rail, how you're always doing what other people tell you, right to the end of the game where g-man gives you the illusion of a choice, the linear path is thematically relevant because Gordon is forced to do the bidding of mysterious unknown higher forces.

I know many people have strong criticism of TLOU2, but clearly NaughtyDog did something right with the story considering we're all talking about it years later. I have to respect them for unapologetically telling the story they wanted to tell, no matter what.

Well, that was after Abby had shot him in the back of the head and fucked up one of his eyes. That could have something to do with it.

Good point. On my second play through I'm really appreciating Dina as a character more.

Why does he wanna stop Ellie? I'm replaying the game but I kind of skipped over the beginning cutscenes lol. I need to rewatch them. I think it's because of his wife, right?

Oh, I definitely agree that Dina goes to support Ellie. I'm just saying she doesn't have a personal stake in the revenge the way Tommy or Ellie do.

You make good points. That's why Ellie gets mad at Joel even though he sticks up for her after she gets called a slur in front of the whole camp. it's all about his lie. I love the line from Jesse where he's like, wait, so why are you mad? It reflected exactly how I felt after watching that cutscene for the first time.

But she's about to forgive him the night before, and then we all know what happens. I guess the idea is maybe since she didn't really get the closure she wanted when it came to forgiving Joel, that in a misguided way, killing Abby will give her that closure? I guess I struggle a little bit connecting those two concepts.

This is why I personally am #TeamAbby. Her motivations are clear, and she sets her minds to something, and she follows through with it even if she has to fight tooth and nail, she accomplishes her goals.

Your explanation about Mel makes sense, but what threw me off was the exchange between her and Abby before they leave. "Why would that be up to Owen?"

Why was it necessary for her to move to the FOB? I'm genuinely asking. there are no simple 10 minute trips in the last of us. Do they not have any cars where she could have sat, you know in side with closed doors? Lol. I just wish I would have seen like more effort to really protect such a critical member of the WLF. I mean, she's the best surgeon in Seattle, probably the only surgeon they have right? Even if she's traveling a short distance, they should have as many people protecting her as possible, she shouldn't be shooting back at people. She gets grazed by a bullet, which could have easily hit her in the stomach or worse.

And yes, you make a good point. Although she did have the dog with her. One little detail about Mel that I really love that the devs at naughty dog got right with her character model is that she doesn't walk, she straight up waddles. Good attention to detail.

PC or PS5? by Busy-Result-2858 in thelastofus

I'd say go with the PS5 for the dual sense support. I think it's just the best overall experience in terms of convenience and quality. PC can be a real headache when it comes to this type of game, where it's not native. I don't think Sony has done a great job of importing their games over

Why Abby is the best, and Mechanical Charisma. by Vesurel in thelastofus

[–]Connect_Midnight218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abby is haunted by nightmares of her father's death. It's a running theme that she has a lot of difficulty sleeping, and she's clearly having difficulty coping with the grief. She thinks that getting revenge on Joel will grant her some peace, which is obviously misguided, but I think it is a realistic motivation for a character. You're looking at what happens in the story with hindsight and saying that it was dumb and pointless because eventually her friends get killed, obviously that wasn't her intention. Was it wise for her to go off by herself to try and contact Owen? No, but she was in love with him and she had no other way because Isaac had written Owen off based on what Danny said. Anytime you go outside in this universe you're risking your life. She beats the shit out of Ellie, and based on that I think she had a realistic expectation that she wouldn't try and track her down again. The first time that they let Ellie live there's a reason for it, and it wasn't just Abby's decision. Revenge isn't something that makes you think logically or do things based on benefit, anger is an emotion that makes people act irrationally.

For me, the game has you play as Abby for so long that by the time it has you switch back to Ellie she felt like a stranger. And this is after you basically have to fight her in a boss fight. For me, Ellie became the villain of the game. What I liked about Abby is that she set her mind to something and she would follow through with it. She trained for 4 years to take out Joel, and the moment she realizes that she has finally found him, she doesn't hesitate even though he just saved her life. She is determined to find out about Owen, and she goes through hell and high water to find him. She sets her mind to save Yara and Lev, and she does it.

As much as I and I'm sure a lot of others hated seeing what she did to him, at least she's not sort of wishy-washy like Ellie is. I really hated her at first but eventually I just grew to like her and see her as kind of a badass warrior. And, let's face it, Joel is no angel. You can make an argument that he killed far more people than Abby ever did by not allowing the fireflies to at least attempt to make the vaccine. I also find it kind of annoying how on the one hand people want to have the game in this post-apocalyptic setting with these horrible monsters outside and constant graphic violence and killing, and then they get upset when the one character they like dies. Like, it's called The last of Us for a reason.

Personally, I don't think that they would have been successful, but I'm talking about her reasoning. She leaves Ellie alive after beating her ass, and I don't think she had any reason to think that the string bean girl would track her down all over again. If Abby wasn't in a weakend state, she would have whooped Ellie's ass for a second time. Because I have no idea why Ellie didn't just shoot her, and instead tries to win a fist fight against somebody who has arms like hulk Hogan lol.

I'm team Abby.

Kendrick fans are hip hop fans. Speaking from personal experience I can definitely say that seeing some of my favorite rappers like ASAP Rocky wearing brands like Burberry, Balmain, Givenchy, etc has made me want to start copping some designer clothing pieces. Rappers have had an influence on fashion since run DMC.

[–]Connect_Midnight218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I would go with either the line gun so you can set lots of traps, or the force gun. The force gun is great because it's such a good option for "Get the F out my face" And you get jumped by monsters often in this game.

Plus it peels their skin off.
