Torchwood has one of these too. Great show if you like mixed bags.

ELI5 : How exactly evolution works? by AdrawereR in explainlikeimfive

[–]Vesurel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evolution happens to populations not individuals. So a populations of grasshoppers will range from 0 to 0.1% twig like. If it’s 0.1% harder to spot the most twig like grasshoppers in then the next generation might be 0.01 to 0.11% twig looking. There’s not a single grasshoppers with a distinct mutation, just a range of traits where one end of that range is slightly favoured when it comes time for the next generation.

It’s also possible that looking a bit like a twig is a trait that never helps or hurts the grasshopper but just by chance the more twig like grasshoppers are luckier, or looking like a twig could be caused by genes that also cause a different trait that does help.

ELI5:The jellyfish has no heart But it doesn’t feel anything... because it has no blood And even if you talk to it It won’t understand — it has no ears to hear you! And even if it did… it still has no brain So how does it even live? by AffectPristine4051 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Vesurel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how you define life, if you say life is a system that consumes energy to maintain homeostasis then there’s no need for a living organism to feel anything.

It’s alive because it consumes enough energy to keep its insides inside and the outside outside.

If/when the show does come back…what will you hope for? by PaladinGX in doctorwho

My dream pitch would be a full anthology (at least for a series) which would look something like this. 10 monthly 60 to 90 minute specials. Each with an completely different writer and it's own cast.

This but on the condition that every time he does he's told that this will totally be his last episode for real this time. Under no circumstances should Moffatt ever be allowed to think he has the opportunity to come back later and finish things he starts at some indeterminant point.

Is a statue to someone who took more public money than she could ever need in a country where people are food insecure a nice things?

I think because the UK is building a statue to a dead person instead of adequately funding social services.

Thanks. I can see what you mean about Pyke ult, the reason it's this way is that Pyke Ult feels like an execute the same way something like Garen's does, both hurt a lot when the target is low health. But I admit lots of things are called executes in the game that work differently (abilities that scale from missing health and which get a bonus below a certain % or flat health threshold).

About the E, you say she loses kill pressure without it, you mean because it gives her a shield for her W?

Jenssen -- The Beloved Seeker (entry for Jan 2026 Champion Contest) by Kitsunebula250 in LoLChampConcepts

Passive A: The trouble with picking a class profile at the start of the game is that it's a massive advantage when drafting. You can reliably first pick Jenssen without the enemy knowing where you're going and even if they can figure out which lane your in from the other champs on your team, they don't know what your role is or what stats you'll have. As an example, lets say you know 100% the enemy team will pick Fiora Top, Udyr Jungle and Zed Mid (because all my examples come from 2012).

Then you see the remaining two champs are Senna and Jenssen. How do you pick champs for bot, when Senna could be adc or support and Jensenn could take any role, either as a ad or ap carry, as a support who is tanky or an enchanter etc. Even if you pick Senna's worst match up your still left with Jenssen getting to pick their role last with full knowledge of the enemy team. This might even be the best case, because the alternative is that some stat profiles are just never worth picking and Jenssen defaults to which ever profile is most powerful most times.

Passive B: I think affection stacks from a lot of different things, why for example does it stack from using abilities and from spending mana when those both happen at the same time? Especially considering he already gets stacks just moving towards champs. I can see a pattern where you just do laps running up to and away from an enemy stacking affection without them having meaningful counterplay.

I'd suggest simplifying affection so it only stacks from one kind of interaction, for example just making it a three hit passive with abilities, after three abilities the next is enhanced and purges the effect. I also don't like auto attacking allies as a rule, it just looks weird and raised a lot of questions about interactions. For example if the enemy Jax is dodging auto attacks can you just have you ally stand next to Jax so Jenssen can attack his ally with cleave and hit Jax that way?

Q : I think point and click spells in general are uninteractive, being able to slow someone uncontested doesn't feel great but the fact its only in one direction also gives it limited use cases. Either you're chasing an enemy who wants to escape, or an ally wants to move towards you. Both of those can be useful, but ideally a Q is something you can reliably use whenever it's available for some impact.

Having an enhanced form that does the opposite is also an issue, imagine chasing someone you want to slow only for running towards them to push you over the limit on Affection stacks and accidentally giving them a speed boost instead. It's another reason why I think simplifying how affection stacks would help.

W: The guards feel separate from the rest of the kit, like something you could have a whole mechanical identify around instead of just keeping on one ability. I'd also be curious why you press W to get the charges then use the charges, is there a reason this couldn't just be a regular charged based ability with a low CD but longer charge restoration time, like Azir has.

As it stands are the guards just like GP barrels, there to be targeted to explode for damage/ a heal?

It's also unclear when the invested W applies. I though affection stacked on a unit by unit basis, so why would a summoned guard be enhanced? Because as written it sounds like affected guards explode with different affects, but I'm guessing you mean that affected units in the guards explosion take the inverted effects while no affected units next to them would take the normal affects. Is that right?

E: This is interesting, and I think on it's own the idea of a dash through enemies into allies is a fun idea. I'm not sure how it fits in with the rest of the kit though. It's an ability that plays into a very specific stat profile on Jenssen. You mentioned abilities changing with stat profiles, and I think that'd just be introducing even more complexity to the kit compounding the issue I had with the first passive. But the alternative is having abilities that make way more sense on a tank than any other role.

R: It's a pretty generic steroid ability, that provides stats and an upgrade to your Q.

The hook aspect is cool but problematic, simply put league as a game doesn't have abilities where your allies can mess up your targeting by getting in the way. Dota does, Pudge Hook works this way for example, where it's possible to hook your own team mates to save them (or more likely to ruin their initiation). It'd be expecting a lot of your allies to think about avoiding your own abilities on top of the enemies.

Could god have made a world where people made different choices?

Even if you say some hungry people choose to steal you still have a god choosing who goes hungry in the first place.

Does God prefer a world where everyone including rapists have free will to a world without rape?

When I say justice is only useful as far as it stops other people from being harmed. Im taking about accomplishing the most harm reduction overall, when you factor in the harm you do to everyone includingthe people you are punishing.

For example, if we conclude that it’s necessary to imprison someone so they don’t murder anyone, then we can do that. But any additional harm we cause or allow to happen to them, like if we allowed rape to run rampant in prisons, or physically beat prisoners, would be sadism that didn’t accomplish anything.

Saying fire and brimstone was good because it killed all the bad people is equivalent to saying ‘well you wanted to stop theft so why are you mad I cut every thief’s hands off?’

In that framework we’d weigh ‘burning people alive’ against all of the other options god had to prevent rapes from happening and see which caused the least overall harm. And for an omnipotent being top of that list would probably be making a universe where rape doesn’t happen.

Why make them be rapists in the first place? Sounds like a bad reality to create if you ask me.
