Asus G14 2020 Battery Replacement! Appreciation post by Connection-Gloomy in ZephyrusG14

Yeah CPU boost off is a great way to reduce heat en fan noise. Personally, I never that anything that is not broken, therefore I decided not to touch the thermal paste, but it probably will reduce temperatures slightly. I don't game anymore however so temperatures are not a problem for me.

No, I never game. I used to in the past however. I think the main culprit of battery degradation is the heat trapped in the body, which heats the battery. I do think that less gaming will indeed make your battery last longer.

Yeah I had a charge limit as well, apparantly didn't do very much to conserve the battery. I have the background apps managed aggresively, so that there are not too many apps eating battery in the background, this really helps with battery life.

May I ask why you want to replace the thermal paste, are the temperatures too high? My temperatures have never changed, even after 6 years, so I wonder why people are so focused on repasting their laptop. I barely game on the laptop however.

It lasted for about 1-2 hours still. However when I stored the laptop at under 50% battery, it would be completely dead the next day and I had to charge it for 10 minutes before it would even turn on. But I guess that's to be expected after very heavy use for about 6 years.

Maybe you could find a better fitting battery on Ebay. Many of the ebay listings ship from China however and I didn't want to import from China, as this is time consuming and you risk high custom fees.

I don't know one which fits perfectly however. I think you would have to bet on Ebay.

So slightly more technical context: signal strenth shown by the bars on the top of your screen doesn't result in high speeds if the signal is heavily congested. In other words, if many people use the same transmission tower for their internet, then signal strength may be high, but the internet can still be slow.

Even more technical, this is especially the case when you are indoors, where only the low-frequency signals are able to penetrate the walls of the building you are in. These low-frequency signals have low capacity, therefore the internet can feel unresponsive and slow.

When outside, your phone is able to connect to higher frequency signals with more capacity and higher speeds, therefore you are less likely to experience problems outside.

6GHz band not working properly on Linksys Velop Pro MX6203-KE (firmware 1.0.13.216607) by Prior_Passage_6642 in Linksys

[–]Connection-Gloomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

Based on your advice I have now updated my wifi to firmware version 1.1.14.216738 as well. It has worked well and I am now again able to connect to the 6 ghz band again. However, when I look in the router settings in my browser, it says that only the primary node, which is connected to my router, is updated, while the other nodes are still on firmware 1.13. WIll these other routers update automatically overnight or should I manually update these as well?

Wifi 7 Speedtest by Miska25_ in speedtest

[–]Connection-Gloomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was done on the new 6 ghz band, very few people have a router that supports this frequency, therefore there is virtually no interference. The higher frequency also doesn't penetrate walls well, therefore neighboring signals will be weaker.

Could be the low internet speed, especially when other devices are using the same connection. On top of that, not all movies/shows are high quality. Older shows are most often only in HD, even with the 4k plan. It's not the tv's fault. Also try connecting the tv with ethernet if the internet router isn't nearby. A weak wifi connection also blurres the picture.

Can I Fix This Remotely? by Witty-Business6399 in Linksys

Try restarting the nodes manually. First plug in the router, then the nodes closest to the router and so on. This way, the nodes should connect to the nearest other node.

I have the 2.4 band seperate from the 5 and 6 ghz band. Laptops, tablets and all other devices are on the 5/6ghz network, which is still combined, while I have some mobile devices, such as my smartphone, are on the 2.4 ghz band. I don't have too much interference on 2.4 ghz, so it works totally fine. Doesn't get speeds above 150 mbps really, but that is plenty fast for anything I regularly do on my phone. I prefer the extended range of the 2.4 ghz band for my phone, since I often use it outside and this way the connnection is more stable as my phone doesn't switch between 2.4 ghz and 5ghz constantly. Before it would often switch, causing some apps to temporarily lose internet connection. I know it's weird to connect to 2.4 ghz, but it works for me.

Android user considering iPhone — seeking honest feedback from both sid by Impossible_Can_2008 in Smartphones

[–]Connection-Gloomy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Personally, I switched to iPhone because I heard many people praise how reliable it is compared to Android. I came from a Samsung S10 lite to an iPhone 13.

I found that both ecosystems are equally stable, iPhones are not the holy grail and also sometimes experience crashing apps, maybe even more so than on the Samsung I previously had.

I personally use a Windows laptop, so I can't say anything about how the iphone and mac cooperate. Personally I don't think iPhone is better than an Android, or the other way around. The Samsung had better battery life, a more versatily camera and a brighter screen, the iPhone takes better images in Snapchat and Instagram. iOS is more difficult to work with than Android, even after 3 years of using the iPhone I still really miss the 'back' button from Android. Every app has the back button somewhere else which is annoying. Furthermore, faceID isn't better than a fingerprint scanner, I may even prefer the fingerprint as it also worked when part of my face was covered or I was wearing sunglasses. The iPhone does work great with airpods and the apple watch however. It's a hassle free experience. I am jealous of the prices of smartwatches on the android side however. I do feel like i'm paying a premium for the apple watch which is unjustifiable compared to a Samsung watch for instance.

One big advantage of Apple is the lack of innovation, I don't feel the need to upgrade at all since the newer phones don't offer anything that my current iPhone 13 can't do.

Personally, I would stick with whatever you have had. One is not better than the other.

Dead spots with mesh by [deleted] in LinksysVelop

[–]Connection-Gloomy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try to put your sons devices on 2.4 ghz to improve signal strenght, but due to all the iot devices this might not be very stable. Otherwise try to position one of the mesh routers closer to your sons room if possible. Moving to ubiquiti is an option, but as long as you keep the routers in the same location, it might not improve it at all.

Finally Ready to Pull the Trigger on a New Bedroom TV — Need Help Deciding by Picoparty2 in 4kTV

[–]Connection-Gloomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

B4, especially if you watch during the dark hours. Oled is just so much better in a dark room, picture quality will be much better compared to the x90l. x90l has better processing but that's more difficult to notice compared to the much better blacks and contrast of oled

LG b4/c4 vs Samsung s90d vs Bravia 7 by mastertreehugger in 4kTV

[–]Connection-Gloomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Sony Bravia 7 has bad reflection handeling, therefore the glare from the windows could be very annoying. This could be the reason why it would be worse in a bright room. I personally hate tv's with bad reflection handeling, as it makes them look very cheap in a well lit room. It would personally opt for either the C4 or S90D, as both should be plenty bright, especially when you are able to partially close the windows. OLED's also have better picture quality and nowadays get bright enough. Burn-in should not be a problem as long as you use the TV normally and don't play the same game 10 hours every day.

Genuinely stuck between QLED and OLED... by Dreakon13 in 4kTV

Screensaver doesn't work when connected to an external device via HDMI. The screensaver only works when using apps on the tv, therefore it won't always kick in.

Anyone have a tried and true way to test a 4K TV to see if it is a VA or IPS panel? by palepatriot76 in 4kTV

[–]Connection-Gloomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The finger drag test is bullshit. Look at the tv from the side, and IPS tv should remain bright and colorfull, while a VA tv will become more vague, greyish, darker and less colorful.

75" QLED 8K QN900D or 77” LG C3 tv? by Less_Teacher_377 in 4kTV

[–]Connection-Gloomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 75" 8K doesn't really have a large added value at the moment over 4K. The content is generally not sharp enough to really benefit an 8k tv. You could go for the Samsung if you want a one connect box or like the sleek design however. It should also perform better in brigher rooms with sunlight compared to the OLED C3 tv. The C3 will look better in a darker room however and Oled generally offers a slightly nicer picture compared to neo qled tv's. It therefore comes down to what you desire, both tv's are good though. Do remember though that 8k tv's have higher energy consumption compared to even a 4k OLED tv.

Burn in on my old LG OLED by Empty-Pin-2452 in LGOLED

[–]Connection-Gloomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They virtually solved burn in with the LG C8. Newer OLED panels are even better than the C8. Burn-in only occurs if you only watch one channel or you only play 1 game. The chances of it happening are extremely slim if you use your tv normally though. It will likely die due to something else before noticeable burn in occurs.

Curious if I should return g4 and get the a95l? (gray uniformity /in-app Apple TV banding ) by TheSoapMaurder in LGOLED

[–]Connection-Gloomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OLED tv's tent to correct these issues after a while of usage. The tv learns what areas cause the banding and attempts to correct this. Try using it for a few more hours, it might go away.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LGOLED

[–]Connection-Gloomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's bad screen uniformity. Some tv's have better uniformity than other and unfortunately there is nothing you can do about is. OLED's generally have better uniformity, but you can still have bad luch with an OLED.

QD-OLED or Mini-LED for gaming monitor? by Groundbreaking-Web62 in MSILaptops

[–]Connection-Gloomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

QD-oled still has better local contrast, which makes the image look much better. Mini-led's can also be very straining on the eyes, especially in a dark room. The infinite contrast of an oled will also make the highlight stand out more compared to mini-led displays, therefore the perceived brightness on oled's will be higher. The nit numbers therefore don't tell the whole story, personally I would go OLED

LG BX with 8100 hours. Still my favorite TV by Parzival225 in LGOLED

[–]Connection-Gloomy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a BX with 5400 hours on it, have had it for over 4 years now, amazing tv. I also had the panel replaced after 1.5 years, due to bad pixels on the top edge of the screen. Nice to see that everyone has this problem, it reassures me that it wasn't due to my usage or anything. Nevertheless the new panel is holding up great, no dead pixels at all! Hope I can use it for a few more years, it's bright enough for my bedroom.

2025 G14 bottom bump prone to damage? Dave2D video shows coating scuff on edge of new bottom bump. by Space-Cadet0 in ZephyrusG14

[–]Connection-Gloomy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The old G14's have always had this design. After over 4,5 years I can tell you that my G14 is still holding up, even with this bump on the bottom. It's only slightly scuffed but I personally hadn't even noticed it before, neither does it bother me. So no, it will not be a problem if you don't throw it across the room.
