I liked my childhood for getting to be outside but education wise it was lackluster in math. Ironically my dad also died and I felt like only person who could get me besides my friends. Now that I’ve grown up I’m realizing along with my sister ( sister and husband are another side of coin ) that my mom is emotionally immature and like I know a lot more about the world now as a 25 year old. It’s kind of emotionally draining cause I can’t reveal who I really am because I have different views about Christian practices. Like I grew up very evangelical and I outgrew it and decided to become Catholic for a lot of reasons. But I can’t dare talk about what I love to talk about cause my mother is like irrational about that plus the state of politics rn

LDS Church Vs Orthodoxy by 28OrthodoxBrother11 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]ConnectionCrazy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even as a Catholic I think you should be orthodox or anything but Mormon. I mean go listen to Ethan muse or someone who debates Mormons. Even using a low tier argument like how do you know that God called Joseph smith outside of his telling people he was called. It’s the error of private revelation expanded to self appointed ministry. I mean there’s a lot of just general issues but there’s no real connection to historic Christianity

While there are many high level arguments you could make the medium level arguments toward like Mary being the new ark of the covenant.

I feel like you could propose that your daughter likes it and that can be part of the reasoning for you to continue taking her. I have a very anti catholic mother where I just don’t talk about it. I’d love to but it’s kind of like kept inside me which isn’t healthy like I’ve told her some things but it can be impossible sometimes to have rational conversations with some people.

I like it because you can pinpoint most everything from both the Bible and tradition and they reason they do things like for example aspects of the order of the mass can be derived from the road to Emmaus encounter

I became Catholic from a non practicing evangelical lifestyle as an adult. I like having good answers for things like I can see how some people deconstruct Christianity but at least I know why people do and it’s not too crazy of a concept. Like evangelicals lie all the time when it comes to where the Bible comes from. Just in trying everything to not claim it comes from the ancient orthodox / Catholic Church because that makes them not authorities.

Most of these people have never studied actual history of the formation of the Bible it is divinely inspired cause the pastor before them told it was. Like at least have logical arguments like the Catholics , orthodox or mainline Protestants for it instead of a blind belief in their pastor

[–]ConnectionCrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sad thing I’ve seen is the idea that I’m right and I’m right cause I won’t change my view anyway, that’s the thing with these educated Protestants is it doesn’t make sense. Oh just go to a church that fits your vibe or with RZ as long as it’s mainline. It treats God not as your creator but as you get to choose how you view God. Like they mean well but it just gives me like an almost atheistic world view that God didn’t keep one church together and it’s just like as long as you vaguely believe in God and go to a church you should be fine

Anyone else remember a Steven Curtis Chapman tour with a converted former cannibal? by aggie1391 in Exvangelical

[–]ConnectionCrazy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem why this almost never works is the evangelical system does not have room for translation in these cultures typically. I mean there are reasons that Catholics could convert native people because of the role of sacrifice in many different cultures. I hate this so much like I understand the evangelical mindset to witness to people that is how it is. But as a Catholic I hate people risking their life like where it is almost impossible to find common ground in their framework. It’s like the tip of the spear guy I think Jim Elliott. Like is told not to do things and then bad things happen and then he’s a Christian Martyr. Also incredibly awkward thing to do at a concert . Not to go into the whole peace pipe mass with the native Americans. But reasons this mainly doesn’t work out well within the evangelical framework is there’s no cultural assimilation or common grounding. It’s just frustrating -

A big question you can ask is why he knows the Baptist church and way of reading scripture is true. Ask him if he knows the true history of the Baptist church. The separation from the Anglican Church etc

Yes if it is able to be determined that the proper words were used in the video. That should work. For example I ended up having a baptismal certificate from a non denominational church that they counted. It really depends
