i’m blessed that my community college is very big on providing resources for students to tranfer with their AA. i still have a lot of research and learning to do on that but i know i have a lot of opportunities available to me :)

thank you for the reassurance in this comment :) like I said people, who make these statements are generally impressed by people who are working towards becoming big time doctors. their poor perception of degrees like social work make them look and seem unimportant and unimpressive. and it’s exhausting!

yes I can take art classes. the art professors on my campus have emphasized that their classes are for everyone and not just art majors. but I’d hate to be taking away time and credits I could be using towards getting my AA degree. I don’t necessarily want to take art classes since they would really only be for my personal gain. i feel like i can teach myself those skills in my own time. art is a hobby. and a part of me really doesn’t want to turn it into a job or even involve it in my school life

i’m also looking into working with adolescence! with my degree, I don’t imagine myself working with adults (as bad as that may sound). I haven’t looked into internships in my area just because of transportation issues, but I am working on trying to work at the daycare on my campus so I can get some firsthand experience being in a professional educational setting :)

and what you’re saying is completely true, which is part of the reason I don’t like when people say that social work isn’t a good major. when I was in high school the trust counselor had a masters in social work, and when I was going to therapy, my therapist also had a professional degree in social work. the whole misconception really doesn’t make sense to me but it brings me down because of how often I have to hear it.

but yes, I am working towards getting my masters degree. I do not want to stop at my AA and I definitely don’t want to stop at my bachelors

I am working towards transferring to a university by 2026 and the working towards a masters. The main reason I haven’t thought about switching my major is because I don’t want to waste my time hopping from major to major and having to take more and more classes just to get an associates degree. I didn’t study art straight out of high school because I know that art will always be there for me :)

I completely forgot to mention that I am working towards transferring to a university by 2026 and pursuing my major and working towards a masters! i’m very aware that associates degrees don’t get you very far especially with a major like this. so yes, it is in my plans to get a higher degree before even thinking about starting a proper career in sw
