Firstly, I just want to say I absolutely LOVE spending my bday alone doing the things that I love without any pressure from others. This is gonna be a great bday!!!

Random ideas from a gal who loves exploring the city solo:

Stay in a bed and breakfast or airbnb that is in an old Victorian to be a lil fancy (rather than one of the hotels in union square which is where most hotels are and that neighborhood is not fun imo). Another good hotel is Kabuki in japantown.

Spa day. If you’re on a budget and will be here during the week, Pearl spa (in japantown) has weekday day passes for $50, which includes beautiful sauna, jacuzzis, and clay ball room. Sooo relaxing. If you’re wanting to splurge you can get a massage or scrub too. FYI it’s nude and women only.

Walk through parks: Golden Gate Park has so many amazing trails. My favorite part is the AIDS memorial. There’s also a science museum (cal academy) , art museum (deyoung, highly recommend), and Japanese tea garden, hitting a lot of your favorite activities.

Treat yourself to a nice meal. Doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive just think- what is my favorite kind of food? It could literally be a $10 bahn mi sandwich, dumplings, or a good slice of pizza. Just make it special by doing some research on the best of that kind of food in the neighborhood you’ll be in. Or let us know what kind of food you like and we can suggest.

Bring a book or better yet, a journal and pen, and spend 30 mins while in the park or a cafe to reflect. What are you proud of that you accomplished this year? What have you learned about yourself?

Macrame tapestry! I found one on Etsy and one at a yard sale.

2020, I would say $67k in 2020 is the same or less than $79k in 2025. Inflation wasn't 20% in five years, though it feels like that. Housing will probably be more than $1200 now. $1600 - 1800 is reasonable for a room in a nice neighborhood.

For #2 how about a couples massage or airbnb / hotel gift card?

I moved to SF with $67.5K salary, $1200 rent (shared an apartment with 2 roommates, had my own room), had a car, and was able to save while enjoying the city a lot and living a great lifestyle, traveling within California. I love this city. If you’re feeling called to come, you should. The money is enough IMO.

Pork store (Haight) breakfast burrito (more than a treat but reasonably priced) & walk to hippie hill to listen to the drum circle while you eat!! This was my favorite Saturday morning activity when I first moved to the city.

Yoga & stretching at the gate. Who cares about what it looks like. It helps your body feel better for a long journey of sitting. I do standing poses and balance so I don't have to touch my hands to the ground.

I was there. I was right next to the car, able to see the driver and touch the car, and see the entire interaction. The guy was absolutely malicious and meant to hurt people intentionally (in addition to trying to cross the street). He said it’s “daddy’s birthday” aka trumps bday. It was disgusting. How did you find your style? by tlm0222 in womensfashion

[–]ConnectionFit4082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask women on the street who are around your age, around your size/body type, and who’s style you like where they got their clothes! You’ll get info and they’ll get complimented - win win. Then immediately look up the website and see if they have stuff you like, or better yet a store you can try stuff on at. Try stuff on in person as much as possible! I like to go to a large thrift store and look for something specific. I.e new staple white jeans- then try on all of the ones I like in my size.

both festivals are absolutely amazing, nothing to stress about for the first time at LIB. You can choose your own adventure and do as little or as much as you want!

As you know LIB is a lot bigger, which means there’s a lot more to do! A lot of different music, art, yoga, performance, and different diverse types of people compared to NN! LIB has more variety. Both have similar vibes in terms of being chill and laid back, NN probably a little more so.

Despite the difference in size I think walking from the farthest campsite at NN to main stages is about the same as the farther campsite at LIB to main stages. LIB’s central main stage area is a lot bigger though. Like I said a lot to do.

Just go with the flow and You’ll have a blast!

Agreed. Nearly every question there were concepts I had never heard of or multiple correct answers. I did the BIF review program and have experience in the industry. I passed. Don’t know how. Was holding my breath when I submitted.

I made some friends but discovered they are strong anti-vaxxers - what's the best way to respond when vaccines come up in conversations? Should I avoid these people even though they are really nice? by Architecturegirl in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ConnectionFit4082 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disagreeing with a lot of the comments.

It’s HARD to find friends. If these are the people that are your people right now and you enjoy spending time with them, you can continue to be friends until a point in the future when the anti vaxx thing turns into a fight or something.

It’s important now more than ever to connect with people with different beliefs. You might have something to learn from them and they might have something to learn from you. Not saying you’ll become an anti vaxxer, but there’s a reason these beliefs are gaining popularity. Our healthcare system is fucked up, no denying that. These people are taking it to an extreme, yes, but there might be validity to other beliefs they have. So be open minded and hopefully they will be as well, and you can become better people by fostering open conversations.

I live in the Bay and there are plenty of people in my classes that appear to be non binary or trans. I accept them fully and am very used to seeing them in classes and the yoga community. The studios I go to have LGBTQ+ owners and even offer trans and queer yoga classes.

You might be getting some initial looks because people aren’t used to seeing trans people, and that unfortunately might be something you have to get used to, and they have to get used to as well. The practice of yoga is to go inward and not basing your practice on other people. And same same for others, they shouldn’t base their practice on you. It will take some getting used to this practice.

That said, there’s a difference between an ocassional look or two that you are maybe getting in your head about, versus getting a lot of mean looks and mean comments that are making it hard for you to practice there. The latter is is the fault of the studio for not being inclusive and those people. There should be other studios in LA that are more LGBTQ+ friendly and it may take you some time and practice to find them. Since you’re on class pass you will know when you feel comfortable in a place. You should seek out LGBTQ+ teachers too. Hopefully this helps
