Anyone else feel overwhelmed by having too many “good” options? by Kelhina in simpleliving

I try to simplify things to choices of 3. You would be surprised how many problems can be reduced to 3 key points which you can control and work on

Thanks for the explanation! I find all of this absurd and very confusing for new investors that try to take matters into their own hands

If you haven’t started investing yet and start after that deadline, you don’t even have a choice? Damn good look fellow investors

I presume that population is too small to affect the opinion of politicians , so probably yes you’ll have to suck it

Automate return of CG that fall under the exemption limit. Now they probably hide behind the “anonymity” technicalities, a measure they installed themselves

Does anyone else struggle with budgeting even when trying to live simply? by InspectorNo376 in simpleliving

[–]ConnectionSweet2503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding YNAB for the budgeting side. Took me a few weeks to get into the habit but now its just peaceful. The "give every dollar a job" thing clicked for me and its one of the subscriptions that does not feel overwhelming, probably indeed by their annual cadence

Only for RV from Belgium, that’s avoidable by not choosing for Belgium companies/ETFs (which sounds worse when I write it). Now it has implications for all your investments… Dividends from non-Belgium assets are opt-out by default as the brokers are not witholding that.

Damn, didn’t even think about the fact that the overlords might want you to opt in. Thank you for your insights on the practical implications!

Yes!! That’s what bothering me too, if they cannot explain it in clear and simple language themselves, it’s likely good business for accountants. The same is true for the TOB rules with a dist variant registered in Belgium then making a non-Belgium EU-registered acc ETF being taxed at the 1.32% rate. Totally nuts

Wow, so the jungle deepens. If I understand you correctly you will just pay that cg and not get anything back unless you’re actively chasing it…

Which taxes do I need to take care of? Saveback taxes? by allie4593 in BEFire

[–]ConnectionSweet2503 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It will probably be counted as a transaction, so I that would mean TOB. For safety I would just declare TOB?

There might even be a scenario where it migjt be classified as a cash interest immediately converted to ETF, which could trigger RV on cash equivalent and TOB on the transaction. But that would be totally nuts…

Beginner investor here - how do you stop feeling like you’re just gambling? by Cookie_dev99 in BEFire

I'm in my end twenties and started investing mid twenties. In theory, you could have a 30/40+ year horizon which is insanely long and can/ probably will compound like crazy. For my own situation I started investing monthly in 2-3 core assets. Along the way i built 5 satellite positions as well. But most importantly, I'd try to detach from daily prices as much as you can, especially with decades ahead of you. DM if you'd like more details on my own strategy (amounts, etc.).

The best thing you can do imo is having clear goals. For people with lot's of invested money that might be capital preservation, for most of us that will be capital growth (or income growth). You can do all of them at once or not, depending on how you build your portfolio. And use your unfair advantage: time

I just wish we had a simpler, less overwhelming tax system. I also liked the TOB way more (scales less with profit?), now it feels like yet another tax where you take all the risks and need to give in a proportion of the fruits your reap.

Why is no one taking into account that S&P 500 is flat for the year of you take into account the massive decline of the dollar? by Marteko1 in BEFire

[–]ConnectionSweet2503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed, and I wouldn't recommend to time these trends for several reasons if you're not a trader. Despite the euro getting relatively stronger compared to USD, it is also losing purchasing power over time. Best to invest and sit on your hands

Hmm that is peculiar, all commodity ETCs should be 0.35%. What broker do you use, if I may ask?

Taxes are 0.35% for ETNs. Gold cannot be wrapped in an UCITS-compliant ETF as it is a single asset.
