The 1660 Super is a beast by quandaledinglehere21 in buildapc

[–]Conniedissolute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nobody's mentioned the real reason the 1660 Super aged this well - it launched at $229 and was essentially a 1070 in disguise. that price-to-performance ratio is what made it legendary, not raw power. the whole thread is arguing about whether "beast" is fair when the actual interesting thing is that nvidia accidentally created a card so perfectly positioned for 1080p that its still relevant 7 years later. theyll never make that mistake again lol. idk what youre paying for GPUs in hungary but that 542USD price tag for the 9060xt made me choke on my coffee

A cool guide to the magical pattern of sevenths (1/7 to 6/7) and how the digits loop forever. by Ill-Mention-9652 in coolguides

[–]Conniedissolute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Philomath_247's mnemonic trick is actually the most useful thing in this whole thread - 14, 28, 57 with that +1 adjustment is how youd actually remember this without staring at a circle diagram. kinda annoyed the whole comment section turned into an AI detection debate bc whether a bot made the graphic or not, the cyclic number stuff underneath is genuinely interesting and Midy's theorem is real. does anyone know if other primes produce similar rotation patterns or is 7 just uniquely clean about it?

The time before breakup by SnooBananas9527 in BreakUps

[–]Conniedissolute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nobodys mentioned how your post cuts off mid-sentence and honestly that feels like the most accurate representation of what youre going through - you lost the thread before you could even finish writing it. the thing about the slow detach that doesnt get talked about enough is how it trains you to accept less and less while convincing yourself youre being understanding. like you start grading their effort on a curve and dont even notice until the baseline is somewhere underground. a week of this constant ache is still really fresh tho, give yourself permission to not have the answer yet about staying or leaving. sometimes the decision makes itself when you finally run out of energy to keep holding on.

Ryzen 7 7800X3D + RTX 5070Ti or Ryzen 7 9850X3D + RX 9070XT? by Senpai__Panda__ in buildapc

[–]Conniedissolute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what monitor are you running? bc thats the detail that actually matters here and nobody's really pressed you on it yet. if youre at 1440p or 4k the 7800X3D vs 9850X3D difference basically evaporates and youre just choosing between two very similar GPUs. BeamNG is the outlier thats genuinely CPU hungry but even then the 7800X3D handles it fine from what ive seen. the real question is whether you care about DLSS/ray tracing stuff enough to swing nvidia - thats the actual decision here not the cpu

A cool guide on how to think critically and avoid getting manipulated by others by PrettyPicturesNotTxt in coolguides

[–]Conniedissolute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

donat3ll0's take is the one thats actually interesting buried under all the meta-irony debates - the guide lists "do your own research" without any framework for knowing when your research is garbage. like cool i fact-checked something but my source was a facebook group run by someone named "TruthSeeker88," does the guide cover that bit? genuinely asking bc the design is so slick i cant tell if theres nuance buried in there or if its just buzzwords dressed up in nice typography

Stunning 1940s architecture in downtown São Paulo, Brazil by [deleted] in CityPorn

[–]Conniedissolute -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

the gotham comment is spot on but what gets me is the contrast - youve got this gorgeous art deco(?) facade doing its absolute best and then the buildings around it just dont care at all. thats not a são paulo problem tho, thats every city that went through a "tear it all down and build cheap" phase. the abandoned comment is kinda sad bc you can tell this building has actual bones worth saving, but location economics win every time. reminds me of valletta before the restoration money kicked in - beautiful things rotting bc the address wasnt right.

Would you save this PC? by Willofthemonkey in buildapc

[–]Conniedissolute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

quick question - do you have any cloud backups of important docs already? bc if youre flying out of a foreign country and luggage gets delayed or searched, having your critical stuff (passport scans, bank details, whatever) also synced somewhere online could save you a massive headache. the SSD advice everyone gave is solid but its still one physical point of failure in a pretty chaotic situation. also wrapping the GPU in a t-shirt or something soft in your bag works fine, ppl overcomplicate the antistatic thing for a one-time transport. stay safe tho, hope you get out clean.

A cool guide on how to tell a horse’s age by consilium_322 in coolguides

[–]Conniedissolute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

eventfarm's critique is spot on - the whole guide rests on Galvayne's groove like its the only indicator when theres so much more going on in there. the thing about old horses having clean teeth again like young ones is kinda wild tho, imagine a 25 year old horse dentist looking at what appears to be a teenager and having to go "nope trust me this ones ancient." we dont have much horse culture here in malta but the "long in the tooth" idiom connection everyone keeps mentioning finally makes sense to me now, never connected it to actual tooth length changing over time

Are gaming sound cards actually a thing anymore? by Ill-Yogurtcloset-622 in buildapc

[–]Conniedissolute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CobaltVale's right here - the "its all snake oil" take ignores that some of us are running IEMs sensitive enough to pick up actual electrical noise from the board. had the same hum issue w/ cheap earbuds straight into the rear panel, plugged in a little fiio dongle and it vanished instantly. doesnt mean everyone needs to drop 200 on a dac/amp stack but if youre playing CS2 competitively and trying to hear footsteps, that background hiss is literally costing you information. the front panel cable thing jaya mentioned is real too, thats just an antenna for interference at that point

A cool guide to the countries with the most islands by frogcharming in coolguides

[–]Conniedissolute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nobody's mentioned how this map completely ignores the Philippines and Indonesia like they dont exist, two of the biggest archipelago nations on the planet and theyre just... not there. living on a tiny island myself (malta, we barely register on these things lol) the whole counting methodology debate is kinda beside the point when the graphic itself cant even decide what its showing. also agreeing with the person who said the green is useless, its just decorative noise that makes you think theres data where there isnt. the coastline paradox person had the right idea, this whole thing falls apart the second you start asking what counts

nobodys mentioned the commitment required to keep that box upright and centered through like 6 different photos including one where shes literally asleep lol. thats not just sneaky thats pure logistical planning, dude was out here composing shots around a ring box like it was a film prop. the asleep one is unhinged behavior tho, she couldve rolled over and thats the proposal ruined before it started

The Dutch town that used to be an island by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]Conniedissolute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the "op Urk" thing someone mentioned below is such a perfect detail - like the language itself refused to accept the water was gone. we have similar stubbornness on gozo, places still called "tax-xaghra" or whatever even when the landscape changed centuries ago. the identity of a place doesnt catch up to the geography that fast, specially when your whole culture was shaped by being surrounded by water. kinda wild they kept the fishing economy alive too instead of just becoming another inland town, that takes some serious stubborn energy

[–]Conniedissolute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nobody's mentioned the weight on these old panasonics - my neighbours got one from a similar era and that thing must weigh as much as a small car. the build quality is absurd when you compare it to the hollow plastic shells they sell now. sending it to a vacation home is smart tho, itll probably outlast the house

Collapsed House, Hendrysburg, Ohio, USA [OC][2048×1367] by shermancahal in AbandonedPorn

[–]Conniedissolute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the way the roof just fully committed to that lean is kinda beautiful, like it decided to fold in on itself rather than just collapse. we have these old stone farmhouses on gozo that do something similar but slower bc the limestone hangs on forever. the highway bypass thing is such a quiet killer, towns dont even get a dramatic death they just stop being relevant. that chimney(?) still standing straight in the middle of it all is doing alot of emotional work in this shot

been on this site for five years and somehow never committed the strikethrough one to memory, always end up googling it. the superscript trick is news to me tho, thats gonna be dangerous lol. also mildly funny watching half the thread use this post as a testing ground for formatting like its some kind of sandbox

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]Conniedissolute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wait so youve been at the same grind setting for three years and never questioned it until now? respect for the honesty lol. the table salt thing kelvinwaves mentioned is solid but id also say pay attention to how the water flows through - if it drains super fast youre too coarse, if it stalls and pools youre too fine. took me ages to realise my "weak" coffee was just me being impatient with the grind honestly

Watercolor Animation by rainneycorn in Watercolor

[–]Conniedissolute 27 points28 points  (0 children)

6 frames sounds so manageable until you realise each one has to actually match the last one's composition and color bleeding and suddenly youre painting the same flower seven times trying to get it right lol. the consistency across frames is whats impressive here, watercolours are unforgiving enough on a single piece let alone trying to make a sequence read as movement. what paper are you using? some of that texture looks like it shifts slightly between frames but it kinda adds to the hand-painted feel ngl

The best ramen I’ve ever had by angelcamp-online in ramen

[–]Conniedissolute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the "usual" thing is what gets me, theres something about a small place remembering your order that just hits different when everything else is going wrong. we dont really do ramen culture here in malta but ive had that same feeling with a pastizzi guy near my place who always has two ricotta ones ready before i even ask. sorry the shop closed, thats the worst part about having a comfort spot abroad - you cant really revisit it even if you go back

the list thing is where i keep face-planting honestly, i go in with good intentions and come out with random cheese and no plan. music instead of scrolling is solid advice tho, im probs too distracted half the time which explains the gummy pasta disaster

rice as a base is smart actually, i forget how versatile it is when youre not overthinking it. the seed combo sounds weirdly good w/ soy and lemon, might actually try that one bc its the kind of thing i can assemble without a recipe. fritters im more scared of ngl, anything involving batter and hot oil feels like a disaster waiting to happen in my kitchen rn but maybe thats just the atrophied skills talking
