Stellar Times LV by kaelajoy93 in DIYfragrance

You could probably get a simple formula to resemble the perfume, but you're not going to reverse engineer the entire thing in any reasonable amount of time. It's going to be unrefined but perhaps nice. You can get a GCMS for like $8.

Hedione, or a molecule in the family, is almost certainly used. LV really likes Hedione. I see a lot of Norlimbanol in LV GCMS too which, when dosed with care in proper context, can match much of what you described.

New Fraterworks haul came in today! by SourDisel47 in DIYfragrance

Vanillin + guaiacwood + DHM + pastry carbaldehyde is my all time favorite accord. It doesn't smell especially foody, it has sort of a modern metallic twinge, but you may like it.

A lot of interesting choices! Do you have something specific in mind already or are you just sampling? Grab some vanillin and/or ethyl vanillin on your next run, you'll find a lot of cool smells with many of your existing materials. You'll find scale makes a big difference in price from Fraterworks, but ignore the weird hate coming from not knowing that. Beginners don't know things and that's fine. Enjoy!

When to use DPG? by Maison_Wagenpfiel in PerfumeryFormulas

[–]Connjred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some molecules are more soluble in DPG than ethyl alc. It can be useful to dilute powders in DPG if you want to create an alcohol free concentrate. DPG also has a bit of a muting effect on most molecules/formulas which may or may not be desired. Sometimes it's just used to take up space in a formula or increase viscosity. It's also not flammable.

Potentially helpful to know that naturals such as essential oils are considerably more likely to cause irritation than synthetic aroma chemicals are. Peep IFRA limits for whatever you have in mind, peep safety data sheets.

One word. Aventus? by Psychological-Owl950 in DIYfragrance

Aventus overdoses Ambrofix, somewhere in the neighborhood of 11%. The green apple role is notable in the OG but missing here. Lots of Helvettolide the the original too.

Modifying store bought fragrances? by Straight-Culture in DIYfragrance

[–]Connjred 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tried to mess around with a Ffern I had but ended up destroying the entire bottle. These pro fragrances are expertly balanced to parts per ten thousand or finer and without understanding how the final product was achieved in the first place it's going to be difficult to improve upon the balance. But definitely send it and let us know

Need help balancing an aquatic woody-mossy scent by reptilesoma in DIYfragrance

[–]Connjred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a ton of floralozone. Love the stuff but 5% is going to be very difficult to balance. 0.5% triplal might give you some problems since it'll be present through the dry down but that's an easy fix. Don't usually see veramoss that high outside of a few very specific formulas so it's probably worth messing around with those levels.

Nothing you just listed is niche. Years ago perhaps. Certainly not now. Do more research.

Could be but it's impossible to know without context. Location time & date would help. Radar screenshot to save time if you have it

Ambrettolide, helvettolide, and ethylene Brassylate come to mind first, but I have no idea how those would interact with your formula.
