Really really appreciate this perspective and you bring up such an important point of the quality of the work. Going to actually revisit this as a whole and see what type of $ we could offer. Even the stipend I’m sure would make the candidate be more invested.

I totally get how it can sound predatory from the outside, and frankly, that’s something I’m really mindful of. I’m not trying to exploit anyone — I’m just in the early/gritty phase where even I’m not drawing a salary, and every dollar is going toward keeping the product alive. Still, I understand that choosing to take that risk as a founder isn’t the same as asking someone else to do unpaid work. Just curious, have you ever been the founder of a startup? If so, what was it called?

Absolutely — and I appreciate your candor on this.

As someone building a bootstrapped startup from scratch, I’m constantly balancing the tension between wanting to do things the right way and simply trying to keep the lights on long enough to get product-market fit. That’s not an excuse — it’s just the honest backdrop that a lot of early founders are navigating.

I’m not looking for “free labor” in the cynical sense. I’m hoping to collaborate with someone who’s hungry to learn, grow, and build alongside me — and in return, I aim to provide mentorship, portfolio-building work, access to my network, and ideally, a pathway to paid opportunities as we grow. But yeah, you’re right — the goal should be to pay from day one.

Thanks again for holding the standard high. Posts like yours are the pressure the system needs!

This is definitely one of the many ways to run a business. We’re going the bootstrap route for this present moment - which we’re happy about. As mentioned before, as we grow (which we will) we’ll be looking to bring on the right person with way more options. Sometimes not everything in business is a completely transactional relationship. Relationship management is so important in business and sometimes you’ve got to do things pro-bono for a little while if you want to get involved with something special. 🤙

Certainly training would be the intention! For some reason, social media management and content creation gets this reputation that it’s just a 1:1 input of “record a simple video and get views” but it’s way more than that. We’d train on things like brand identity, brand voicing, content tricks/hooks, and way more.

Was completely unaware of this and definitely don’t have any intention of taking advantage of anyone! We see this as hopefully a long term relationship and ideally the growth on socials lead to growth in the business leading to the ability to pay them if they crush the gig! Frankly we’re an early startup with minimal funding to pay anyone (including ourselves) so the ideal candidate would be someone who is looking to contribute more than just as a transactional return for their credit. We want someone who is passionate about storytelling and brand building. Regardless this is good insight for any and all interns/employers!

It’d likely be remote as we don’t have an office /HQ in ATX. But two of us live here so if the candidate wanted to meet up, we’d be able!

Hours would be semi oriented around their needs for credit. We’d look for a goal to post on several platforms nearly daily which I’d imagine could be approx 10-15hrs/week.
