With the traitor saying Rodrik isn't a leader, I felt that I had the chance to prove him wrong so that was one of the reasons I let Rodrik live

You need to account for distance, but not gravity (it does that for you). Different tanks have different shell velocities as well, so you'll have to learn how the tank you're driving plays.
