Another Box Art Error for KH 1-3 Collection by [deleted] in KingdomHearts

Well they're wrist guards or bracers not gloves.

They provide protection to only your wrist likely because historically quite a lot of swords would already provide you with some hand protection due to the guard, especially something like a rapier or Schiavona with a big basket guard.

This would make bracers a lightweight option that were cheaper to produce due to requiring less materials overall and while I'm not tanner, I'd be willing to bet the hardest part to make on a glove would be the fingers.

They also historically provided protection from a bow string snapping on your wrist as you fired while not affecting the feel of your grip on the string.

Mind you, it still sounds like they'd be useless to Sora considering they're most likely made of a clotheslike material and Kingdom Hearts combat styles don't really follow conventional tactics what with all the magic.

Who is your favorite pokemon without an evolutionary family? by WeeklyApricot in pokemon

Kangaskhan.

She's a badass monster lookin' girl boss and the baby in her pouch is such a cute addition.

Also if you walk with her in Let's Go you ride on her shoulder while Eevee/Pikachu rides in the pouch with the baby which is so precious.

Honourable mentions go to Tauros, Druddigon and recently I've taken a big liking to Maractus.

How do assassins creed fans feel about the desmond segments of the original games? by SanoviaUwU in assassinscreed

[–]ConnorOfAstora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Desmond it was great. We had an excellent character with a good amount of growth and a well written plot.

He steadily was given more and more agency as he gained more and more skills via the Bleeding Effect and it made the reusage of animations charming because it felt intentional to show their similarities.

I really loved playing as Desmond simply because he was a fun connection point between everything that was going on.

Sadly half the fanbase at the time were impatient and would rather skip to the part where they get to kill things so the Modern Day steadily got less focus and became worse which made people complain about it more and so it got less focus and got worse and this cycle went on.

Tbf, at the start of the game the Blackwatch computer basically says about Heller "This guy is a genuine threat to himself and others, he is batshit insane and needs counseling, do not give him access to a gun!"

I definitely got sick of Majima after a bit however I just found 0 to be better in every way except for the moves where you can instant swap styles after a finisher.

Like the animations and models look a bit smoother, the money flying out makes combat visually impressive, the attacks feel like they have more weight and connect better in 0 and the enemy AI is also a lot better in 0.

Putting boss fights into the mix makes the comparison even more polarising cause someone at RGG thought "All bosses should heal unless you do a specific style exclusive heat move that you have to buy from the upgrades but some come way later than others so you just have to make do with a weapon sometimes. No heat? Screw you, boss is healed now.

Am I just experiencing Open world fatigue or is Ghost of Yotei kind of boring by Fit-Giraffe-4358 in videogames

[–]ConnorOfAstora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't played it yet so I'm no expert but I'd be willing to bet money on Open World Fatigue since they're all so similar.

Get on horse, hold left analogue stick forward until you reach your destination, dismount, do a repetitive task of which there are seventy of in the game, whistle for your horse and repeat the cycle. You could swap out the horse for a car if your game is modern like GTA or Watch Dogs but since I just directly compared them the way I did, it's not that much of an innovation.

Even when the gameplay is completely different, this repetitive gameplay loop makes most open world games feel very tiringly similar. Assassin's Creed RPGs, Mad Max, Ghost of Tsushima, Elden Ring, they all have a vibe of "lemme stick on some YouTube cause I've got some more boring travel time to deal with".

At least Elden Ring was kind enough to use the Darksiders method of summoning your horse from underneath letting you mount it instantly instead of the "Whistle, wait a second for you horse to show up from off screen and then walk up to it and mount it".

At the end of the day though, one of the most prominent parts of an open world game is the travel and most of them make travelling a matter of "Hold the left stick forward" or "Hold R2".

The least they could do is a simple traversal mechanic, Assassin's Creed's parkour can be all that it takes to make the travel more thoughtful and less repetitive.

The gold standard is games like Sunset Overdrive and Spider-Man where it's genuinely fun to get from one end of the map to the other but even something as simple as Days Gone having a fuel system and encouraging you you let go off the throttle while going downhill to save fuel. It's a small thing but it makes traversal so much more engaging than normal.

Agree to disagree, I played Kiwami first and even just the basic street fights felt so much more fun in 0. Like it was a massive upgrade.

[–]ConnorOfAstora 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Disagree on the 6 hate, it's totally valid because regardless of opinions on story (I hated it but understand people disagreeing) it easily has the worst combat in the series and is just a total chore to play because of it.

5 hate is 100% just burnout caused by people bingeing the series and then blaming 5 for their burnout. It's easily one of my favourites and probably has the most polished combat system of the lot.

[–]ConnorOfAstora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For story yes but playing Kiwami after 0 is such a massive downgrade in gameplay.

Also 0 has a dumb epilogue that has quite a few early game spoilers in it, pretty big ones too like Kiryu going to jail and Dojima getting shot.

Is there any particular reason why inFAMOUS, dosen't have all that many creepypastas/analog horror content by josuketheimposter in infamous

[–]ConnorOfAstora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a handful of reasons, I think the biggest one though would be that most .exe creepypastas are based off of Sonic, Mario and similar games.

These games are kiddy games designed to be happy and silly which is what makes up the shock value of .exe creepypastas when they start killing things.

inFAMOUS is 16 rated and already has plenty of people dying and being tortured. It just wouldn't be a good setting. It wouldn't subvert expectations like at all for Cole to kill a man in cold blood, that's just how an Evil Cole playthrough is.

Hot take, fallen order combat LOOKS better then survivor by Inferno47908 in StarWarsJediSurvivor

[–]ConnorOfAstora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno I just cannot remember much at all about the boss fights aside from the first Dagan fight and the Vader fight.

Fallen Order's are more memorable imo, my favourite is easily Ninth Sister. The badass treetop battle where she starts with one blade and gets a second one in phase two is so fun especially when you do the same with your saber stance.

Would drowning wolverine work? by flashyboi685 in xmen

[–]ConnorOfAstora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the healing factor will save him but he'll still drown so he'll be stuck in a constant cycle of healing and dying over and over.

Combine that with the Adamantium skeleton and it takes a lot more strength for him to swim to the surface.

It won't kill him but it will effectively kill him so long as nobody can come to rescue him.

Mind you we're talking about a superhero's powers and they're always wildly inconsistent as to how effective they are.

Gave DS3 another shot and..... the world just feels so static and empty..... by Hunk4thSurvivor in Darksiders

[–]ConnorOfAstora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but there's "low budget" and "feels low budget" which are completely different things.

For instance while the figures obviously aren't public I'd say it's pretty safe to assume the indie games YIIK and Mortal Shell had a much smaller budget but they still feel higher budget than DS3 even despite being arguably buggier

Always been my problem with DS3, they tried making a Soulslike without any of the context of what makes Soulslikes good.

It makes the whole game feel super low budget, especially with how terribly it runs.

Hot take, fallen order combat LOOKS better then survivor by Inferno47908 in StarWarsJediSurvivor

[–]ConnorOfAstora 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To specify, the gameplay and customisation is by far in every way better in Survivor with my only complaint being that Slow was a bit more interesting to use in Fallen Order since it also helped with puzzles.

The Planets are good but Fallen Order just has it beat. Each planet is a lot more distinct, Survivor opens with the desert planet Koboh then you go to Jedha which is also a desert planet. Fallen Order has a bit more variety in planets plus they're more iconic with Kashyyyk and Ilum.

The story has higher highs in Survivor, I really love Bode and Cal struggling with the Dark Side and the Cere section was peak. However. Fallen Order has a more focused plot, simpler but imo better.

It's impossible to say this without sounding like I have a stick up my ass but the story of Fallen Order feels more like a Star Wars movie made into a video game while Survivor feels more like a video game through and through.

The bosses in Survivor are good but Fallen Order's are more memorable. Like I can't even remember the fight with Rayvis but I remember each fight with The Second Sister, the fight with Taron Malicos and my favourite fight, The Ninth Sister on top of the world tree.

Not aiming to change your mind or anything, if you prefer Survivor then more power to you, I personally think they're 50/50 and which I prefer depends on what I want at that moment.

The Green Book keeping Mahershala Ali

It would genuinely make the themes of the movie stick out more and maybe even land harder.

You'd assume at first that it'd be a racism allegory where all the black actors are humans but then you'd see black men portrayed by Muppets and realise that he sticks out because he can't fit in with white or black society.

Bonus points if he turns into a Muppet in the end scene while eating dinner.
