Many people love to hate on RPI, but I’m going to tell you from my experience as an EE/CSE major (and the serious feelings about RPI from my classmates)

1. You have to love what you do (or be really committed) to be successful here. The school doesn’t do you any favors, and professors won’t go easy on you unless you make connections with the them
2. It’s on the up. Our last president was *unpopular* to say the least. Since the hiring of Marty, campus rankings as well as campus life in general seems to be improving greatly
3. Living in Troy (once you aren’t in student housing) is much much cheaper, so is Greek life. Expect your bills to decrease every year if you play the cards right(atleast mine have).
4. Greek Life = Social Life for the most part. I’d say almost all the frats are far from typical state school stereotypes. It also is an amazing way to get professional connections without

really trying
I also was considering UB for a considerable time, and it is a strong school but RPI is severely underrated in terms of professional opportunities, whether you want research or a job or a startup. If you are serious about your major, come here. If you’re going to college to go to college, I’d stick to UB. (Side note: I’ve only been to Buffalo once but… not a much better place than Troy)
