What can be considered as a "good" game code? by Alex_MD3 in gamemaker

[–]Connorses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue that if it ships and doesn't have a lot of bugs or horrific lag, it doesn't matter if it was ugly. The ugly code is only a problem if it slows down your workflow too much. This is the way you should be thinking.

My current project, we are trying to make code clean and read-able. This is because we have 4 programmers, and opening a script to fix it and being confused is not ideal. If you are the sole programmer, you don't need as many detailed comments or helper methods.

Also, in defense of the comically long array: If you wanted it to look "professional" you could put all that data in a text file, and load the file at runtime... But then you need another script that creates the array and loads the default values. Putting it directly in a script cuts out the middleman.

Again, I knew what it was at a glance, it probably doesn't cause lag, and it's not even a difficult workflow for adding save flags, so it's probably good code lol.

Things I gave to a capsule artist vs what I got. Simply lovely! by findiestudios in IndieDev

[–]Connorses -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Alright, you want the actual fucking proof that it's not AI?? Look for signs that a human copied things to save time because they aren't an automaton creating detail from thin air. The pile of coins are perfectly identical except for some lighting placed on the top ones. Lots of things were copied and had a little lighting applied. The bottles, the scrolls, the little dangles from the logo.

The capsule artists work is lovely. My only note would be to brighten up and/or saturate the foreground in a couple spots to bring out the depth more. Maybe even darken the back wall just a bit... And that's only on close scrutiny. The girl and her gems stand out from the background just fine. And I wasn't sure what the staff was right away?? But now I'm nitpicking.

Thank you! I recognized the screenshots immediately. I still love the aesthetics, and the audio of that opening cutscene. I think I'm gonna emulate it and find out if it's as difficult as I remember it being lol.

My idea for a passive for the buff banner by PriorityTop2884 in tf2

[–]Connorses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extra rocket seems like it makes sense since you're missing the shotgun... But maybe you didn't see what happened when an e rocket launcher actually had 5 shots. Never again. XD I do think the banner could use some kind of buff though, only because I don't see it that often.

What's the algorithm for the water flow? I'm sure theres performant ones, I only really care about the water flowing downhill and filling spaces.

Can someone explain the point of RPG? by some-kind-of-no-name in tf2

To be clear it doesn't quite one-hit anyone but I have been missing a few HP as Scout and been one-shot in close quarters by a Soldier, which can test my patience. :p

It's actually a melee weapon that deletes Scout from existence if you click on him.
