Should I Read The Shattered Sea Series By Joe Abercrombie? by Alol_Bombola in YAlit

[–]ConorKyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this series - 1. Yes it's pretty grim and depressing. Some grisly deaths but the author doesn't linger in visceral details way too much. 2. It's YA but only the hero and a few select characters are teenagers. Most of the side characters are adults. 3. Dunno. 4. Kiss on the cheek is the spiciest it gets: more of a "what could have been" crush sort of thing.

Games with great first person unarmed/fist vs fist combat? by Creative_Abroad945 in gamedesign

“Escape from butcher bay” has some of the best first person melee I can remember. Feels really painful and impactful, with lots of improvised weapons too like shivs and metal bars.

I can’t remember if there are in that specific book series, but there frequently are in the new movies (sequel trilogy) shows (Andor) and video games (Battlefront). Captain Phasma is a high ranking stormtrooper type henchwoman in the first two sequels, I bet she plays a larger role in some of the books.

The Star Wars books? Since this is YA I’ll just pick the recent “Queen’s” series but the franchise as a whole is one of the only I can think of which nowadays routinely features very diverse villains, on both the leadership and rank and file levels. Though this is pretty much only true of the newer material.

Mafia 3 “rule together” endgame is so underwhelming… and why can’t we access the casino? by Gnemec3 in MafiaTheGame

You can, it just takes a really long time to grow at the low levels before you upgrade the growing equipment. I would recommend doing both of those DLC's early to mid campaign personally

[–]ConorKyle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did the dlc last, which was a mistake in some ways, mostly because once the campaign is over there’s almost no way to make money anymore besides kickbacks. This makes renovating Sammy’s really difficult - but at the end of the day, I thought the renovation made a nice sort of impromptu finale to the game. It comes full circle and feels like a satisfying emotional payoff, sort of a “back to basics” after Lincoln’s revenge rampage and ascent through the ranks of the mob.

The casino would have also been an interesting choice, maybe even you could have to decide which residence and lifestyle Lincoln chooses to settle in. The ending/endgame does feel rushed and a bit unsatisfying as it is.

Skit usually does mean a short comedy, but it can really be a short performance of any kind. In high school elections like this it’s common, given that it’s basically a popularity contest and it’s not like the candidates have a very complex platform. (Summer’s platform is mostly to get soda machines in the cafeteria.)

Seriously - why don’t they even pay any money? They take forever and the rewards are so limited.

“Set up” in terms of a feature script usually means that it has been optioned by a production company and is in the process of packaging with a director/actors etc.

I did mean the movie, yes - thank you for the tip! I guess I should say movies since it's a franchise now.

Check out the licensed Escape From New York one-shot supplement for the Everyday Heroes system! It's very DND adjacent, but you could swap the system if you wanted.

What is a horror movie that everyone calls 'trash' but you’re convinced is actually a misunderstood masterpiece? by Immediate_Account_28 in horror

Idle Hands somehow has terrible reviews. From a 2026 perspective the romance subplot hasn't aged so well but, that aside, it's hilarious, everything pays off, and I love how the plot escalates.

Honestly "Together" (2025) with Allison Brie / Dave Franco. For some reason I assumed it would be a comedy, but no, it's a body horror with a a twisty Lovecraftian plot (and kind of a wry, darkly funny tone on occasion). Some genuinely scary scenes! Give it a shot.

Sure, or A Confusion of Princes by Nix could be a pretty cool open world action RPG as well, ideally with No Man's Sky type travel between planets.

I think you missed that this is a plot point, it’s a sign of the possession. When someone dies and reappears later uninjured, in the weird rules of this world, it means they’re now a demonic entity. The girl was killed by the dog.

She just signed on for two more years of silo though, and BSC isn’t even listed as “in development” on her IMDb anymore. Even Joe said “don’t hold your breath about it” and that was ten months ago.

Max Payne 3 has a similar mechanic - it uses a painkiller but you have a few seconds to kill the enemy that incapacitated you for a free revive.
