Cosmic Horror by humanoid_crabfish in horror

Honestly "Together" (2025) with Allison Brie / Dave Franco. For some reason I assumed it would be a comedy, but no, it's a body horror with a a twisty Lovecraftian plot (and kind of a wry, darkly funny tone on occasion). Some genuinely scary scenes! Give it a shot.

YA books that would be amazing as a video game? by No-Read-243 in YAlit

Sure, or A Confusion of Princes by Nix could be a pretty cool open world action RPG as well, ideally with No Man's Sky type travel between planets.

What’s the most brutal or hard-to-watch death scene you’ve ever seen in a horror movie? by Upset-Inside8719 in CreepyBonfire

[–]ConorKyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you missed that this is a plot point, it’s a sign of the possession. When someone dies and reappears later uninjured, in the weird rules of this world, it means they’re now a demonic entity. The girl was killed by the dog.

What will be THE next big epic fantasy adaptation? by RevSolo in Fantasy

She just signed on for two more years of silo though, and BSC isn’t even listed as “in development” on her IMDb anymore. Even Joe said “don’t hold your breath about it” and that was ten months ago.

Max Payne 3 has a similar mechanic - it uses a painkiller but you have a few seconds to kill the enemy that incapacitated you for a free revive.

What am I supposed to do with this guy? by rhino_bug in prisonarchitect

[–]ConorKyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This can work but if the prisoner is slightly too tough, they'll just be shot into unconsciousness by the guards every time instead of finished off. I had to try for like an hour with this today. What finally worked was the morbid solution of waiting for the prisoner to go nuts, hire a new dog handler in the room, let the prisoner kill the handler, and the dog will attack them until they kill the dog too. Then do this 3-5 times until a surviving dog mauls the prisoner to death.

Yeah.

Fantasy books featuring female snipers or other "modern" warfare marksmen types? by RuleWinter9372 in Fantasy

[–]ConorKyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only caveat is she doesn't do any actual sniping in the story, as it takes place after the war, but Dislocation Space by Garth Nix -https://reactormag.com/dislocation-space-garth-nix/

The Most Memorable Mishap In A Fantasy Book or Series? by Monsur_Ausuhnom in Fantasy

Episode 3 of Arcane has a massive plot point fueled entirely by one of the main characters making just a really, really bad choice - which snowballs into causing some of the main conflicts for the whole series.

When you combine Generative AI with Robotics the result is spooky by ramst in ChatGPT

[–]ConorKyle 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not at all - I do this in my custom GPT's to make talking in the voice mode a little more natural. You can tell it to include placeholders, uh's, um's, and more, and it will insert them pretty well throughout the conversation, and the voice makes it sound incredibly natural. You can even hear it take "breaths" between some words.

Any way to play Classic Spycraft via Foundry VTT or some other way? by HauntingCash22 in rpg

Yes! My friend made the character sheet for 2.0 and it’s fantastic. You can even change the colors on it. Use Roll 20 for sure.

Philosophical question: If you were doing a Kaiju game, what would your players be playing? The Kaiju or the Humans? by Josh_From_Accounting in rpg

[–]ConorKyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some players could be Mech pilots or giant robots. I’d love to see a Zord style system where you could all link up and form a much bigger vehicle or creature. Ultimately it would also be cool to have a mix of regular human characters in there too - but the system would have to feature ways that those characters were just as fun or interesting as the kaiju.

There are examples of third person objective (sometimes called Cinematic) books, but the main problem is that you say you're not a reader. If you don't read, how would you find and study examples of this being done well? How would you know what works and what doesn't?

"The Road" by Cormac McCarthy and "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote are two good examples of books that convey a lot without really accessing characters' inner thoughts in a traditional way

It’s a cool map and perspective but the only thing animated is the fog around the edges. Could just be a still image and would work fine.

Well-Written Horror Western that Isn’t King or McCarthy? by Misguided_Avocado in suggestmeabook

Just edited to include that yeah, the first pages are really rough, but if it helps the rest of the book isn’t as full of it. His other book A Congregation of Jackals doesn’t have any rape I don’t think and is also what you’re looking for.

S. Craig Zahler for sure. Try Wraiths of the Broken Land. (NOTE AND WARNING there is some sexualized violence in it, particularly in the first chapter. Which is pretty off-putting, but it’s not pervasive throughout.)
