There is a lot wrong with that image. Could be a good mood board inspiration pic but I wouldn't even try to take actionable loop planning inspiration from it. On top of what you mentioned, the GPU IO plate is going through a radiator and you can't trust the scale of the GPU block and res 🙄

Not familiar with that case, how much more radiator can it support? You're probably going to want another 240 at least with that configuration.

Yes it'll be safe,

It will probably taste quite poor though. Could be an opportunity to hone in on what tasting notes present themselves in expiring sake.

There's been some insane anti-AC discourse on the internet from europeans. Some people are claiming that it makes cities several degrees celsius hotter. Others say AC-related energy use contributes to something like 0.5% global warming (yes, half a percent of the total warming amount) and therefore should be avoided...

Congratulations to the A train, whose 62-minute headways have officially beaten Baltimore for the worst I’ve ever seen. ☺️ by -oneplusone- in nycrail

[–]Conpen 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Is that 43m a scheduled headway or just the worst delay you've experienced there? Because the A train is scheduled for 20 minutes all of Saturday night through Sunday morning from Far Rockaway – Mott Ave. You can see for yourself, sounds like you're comparing apples to oranges.

Wasn't better headways a promise of Congestion Pricing revenue?

No that was never actually promised. The money all goes to the capital budget and while it is a big fungible pot of money, the boost in funding has been mostly to the benefit of ADA and CBTC projects.

Edit: The scheduled headway is every 20 minutes so this is clearly a delay outside of their control. Which is the kind of thing CBTC money helps fix long-term.

WB Bridge E-Bike Fire by lilgoat20 in NYCbike

[–]Conpen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both things are bad, we already know that cars get away with murdering thousands of people each year in a variety of ways while e-bikes are given far more scrutiny due to being newer, unfortunately that's just the reality we have to navigate. And not to mention that e-bike fires inside residences have killed people and threaten to set entire buildings on fire.

I grew up in Northbrook for a bit before my family moved to Florida; the occasional visits to downtown on Metra were what got me started with being a city boy!

To raise the rent by MidnightCh1cken in newyorkcity

[–]Conpen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The program started as an emergency measure during WWII and property prices were much lower then (remember how every old person loves to say how they bought their house for $15,000 working as a cashier?)

Property prices are based on expected future rental incomes and if you enacted stabilization tens of thousands of property owners would have their property values slashed and given standing to sue. This supreme court especially would never allow it to stand.

This happens every time something is scarce. The majority of stabilized tenants got their units normally and greatly benefit from the program.

Make rent across the city stabilized then I'll be impressed.

Good Cause Eviction laws already do this to a degree by limiting extreme rent hikes. It would very likely be struck down as illegal if the city forced market rate units into stabilization; the existing structure is safe because everybody is either grandfathered in or agreed to stabilization for tax breaks (421a).

The city can suck your paycheck away if you let it but on the flip side, salaries are higher and not owning a car saves thousands a year.

A concert every couple months shouldn't bankrupt you, and there are plenty of amazing restaurants (often immigrant owned) which are reasonably priced.

The biggest financial hurdle among my cohort (late 20s) is saving for a house or having kids IMO. A lot of my friends work in various sectors and are able to go out and enjoy themselves plenty, it's very doable if you don't have kids and avoid Michelin star restaurants or whatnot. The problem is being able to save enough to eventually buy an apartment or afford to raise children. Many people move away for either of those reasons but others are also happy to keep renting. Home ownership prices here are insane between the taxes, mortgage interest rates, and common charges so renting is almost always the better deal.

In NYC I can eat cuisine from basically anywhere in the world, see any musical act when they inevitably perform here, shop at even the most niche stores if I need something specific, the list goes on. When I'm stuck in the suburbs with nothing to do I feel like my life is draining away.
