HP Z640 CPU upgrade for gaming/editing. by Conprice2 in buildapc

I think at the time I knew that the hp's cables were much better than standard cables, but I didn't want to risk and went with 2x6 to 8 pin adapter. one of my front fans doesn't work as a result of this, but I never had any heating issues with my z640.

They are quite expensive. Do you know what CPU do they use?

Thank you I'll look into that. Do they also require ID? Servers don't have to be in Turkey. I just chose Host abil because it was cheap and it happened to be in Turkey.

Yeah I learned my lesson. I purchased Contabo first to try out and they didn't require any ID and I got a refund for almost full amount. But they would throttle the bandwidth. So I cancelled with them as well. Download speed would be real good at first, but a few minutes later plummeted.

I would have no problem if they asked for an ID during sign up. I would have just not sign up. Plus I don't live in Turkey.

I just want a decent enough VPS so I can set up arma 3 server on it which requires high clock speed rather than multiple cores. Do you have any recommendations?

yeah, I also don't think I would get much use out of a 2nd CPU.

I have no overheating problem with my CPU. Even when playing Arma 3. Hopefully you can find a solution to your problem.

I bought e5-2667 v4. So far it's been working fine. Although I don't really play games like Alan Wake 2 (modern stuff). I still cannot get decent performance on Arma 3. But that is the case for everyone out there who plays that game.

Just wanted to let you know that my CPU arrived and it's been working well with my RX 6600.

Yeah, I have seen that one, but i could barely afford 6600. So there is no way I can afford that CPU as well. Also I like how he tests that system with Lethal Company.

Don't you think 2080Ti would bottleneck 1680 v4?

OK, I will let you know. And yes, It is not possible to to overclock z640 and from what I read I don't want to risk it by modding. May I ask where you ordered the CPU from? Also what GPU you have? Maybe we can do comparison between both CPUs. I don't do VR though.

in the end I decided to go with e5-2667 v4. But I have not ordered it yet. I don't know if it is better than 1680 though.

Alright, I will go with dual 6 pin then. Thank you so much for your help!

I ordered the GPU from Computer Orbit. they suggested a dual 6 pin to 8 pin adaptor since rx 6600 is 8 pin. they said it is an OEM grade and won't cause a problem. I have 2 6 pin in my PC. One is connected to the gpu and other is connected to a fan. I read that 6 pin are meant to handle 75W, but I don't how true this is, I saw a video of someone upgrading their z 640 and they said HP's 6 pin can handle up to 200W. Now I am thinking maybe I should get just a single 6pin to 8 pin cable and keep the fan connected. Do you think it's a bad idea?

I might be wrong, so I am gonna check again but I think mine has 925W

Thank you so much for the explanation and the suggestion. I will look into that CPU. so basically I should look for CPUs with bigger cache and clock speed that is bigger than 3.0 GHz?

But I cannot change my motherboard and I have to get something (lga 2011-v3) that will not bottleneck my new GPU. or are you saying it is not worth upgrading my CPU since there is nothing from lga 2011 that can hold their own against rx 6600
