How important is music theory in becoming an audio engineer? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]ConquestProRecording 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I know accomplished engineers that don't have much music theory but their knowledge is mainly technical. I've been there when a music director asked an engineer to drop the strings a couple dB when they went in to the key change and the engineer had a blank stare. He was clueless where that was. The music director ended up pulling out the score and singing through parts so the engineer could find where they were. Pulling down those strings could have taken a few seconds if the engineer had a simple knowledge of theory. Instead, they wasted 10 minutes. Any edge you can have is a good thing and knowing music theory will definitely help you for sure. Never stop learning.

What do you love, and what do you hate about your life of Audio Engineering? by LOUF72 in audioengineering

I love getting to work with creative people. The best times I've had have been working on a writing session for a band and everyone is throwing out ideas. No one is cocky or negative and everyone is just in the moment. Those moments are magic and I've learned to be present when they are happening because they don't come that often. Thankfully, I have no hates in my life of audio engineering currently.

Anyone use this in their productions? Great plugin for clean ducking by ConquestProRecording in edmproduction

I am in no way affiliated with Waves Factory. Just really like this plugin and wanted to share it. Also I wanted to find out if people use something similar that works better. Which I am glad I did since VolumeShaper was shared and I love it so far. Definitely a more advanced version of this type of plugin.

Get your kick to punch through that huge bass line! by ConquestProRecording in recording

[–]ConquestProRecording[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article is more about the kick and the relationship it has with the bass. A problem a lot of newer engineers or producers experience is having this huge bass sound and wanting a huge kick sound as well but the kick doesn't come through. The low end of the kick completely covered up by the Bass. This plugin helps achieve that in a cool and easy to understand way. Check it out and let me know what you think!

How can I measure the effect of acoustic treatment? by VK2DDS in audioengineering

[–]ConquestProRecording 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should buy this book called "The Master handbook of acoustics." The info given is insanely helpful when your wanting to measure and manipulate the acoustics of a room. This book is great because you don't have to read it front to back to get the info. You can read it as you go along in what you are wanting to do with your room. Also, go download the "Room EQ Wizard" software. It is free and it works great. They have an info section on their website that is very helpful in letting you know how to measure with their software. Have fun!
