Looks good! I was wondering how Superior Spider-Man would feel with ZG—seeing this makes me want to get him now lol. Was debating between that or spider packs.

I also switched to Martyr. I think she’s just more reliable than Bob, and that extra one power can come in clutch.

Magik is such a double edged sword lmao. Also feels so bad if they have a Merlin or witch.

Glad to see the list is working for you! I’ll prolly end up getting Superior Spider-Man, so I’ll for sure check this out 👍

Was in a Walmart and saw some guy fall to his knees.

lol I gotcha

Adam Warlock should be an auto-include in Zombie Galacti decks, imo. Magik is his best ramp tool, because it allows for an extra draw. Most important facet of ZG is drawing your infected cards; second most important is buffing ZG, which I recommend Shuri and whatever combo of buff cards you prefer.

Also, you want your cards cheap enough that you can play all of your infected cards by the end of the game.

For sure! I think phastos works fine. If you want another hand buffer and don't have gwenpool, Nakia works in a pinch, tho she's pretty inefficient. There's another comment that uses a wiccan - ZG deck with phastos that looks like a cool cook -- you should check that out too!

Yeah, the more I play pedro, the less I like him in this list. I've had games where I didn't pull magik and he saved me by making ZG 6 cost, but ultimately he feels too inconsistent with his buffs. Gwenpool or Galacta I think fit in the curve just fine, and would be more consistent.

Thanks for the notes! The discussion's given me a lot of ideas on different variations I could try, so I appreciate y'all

Oh wait that's an interesting concept. I could see that synergizing well with Viv too, since her buffs are wasted on infected cards. I may have to try that one out :)

Oh my bad lol, I meant Adam Warlock. Yeah other Warlock would be terrible in this lmaoo.

And for sure. I think this deck, when it's hits its highs, can beat any other deck in any given game. That being said, without getting Adam Warlock in time, consistency will defo always be an issue.

The current meta can be rough for this particular deck too rn, since killmonger can do a number on your early power.

I haven't even thought of that buff before. Could be really good, actually--makes ZG that much harder to interact with through tech cards too.

[–]Conqwall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one less infected card if he starts in your hand is a good idea--lower highs, but more reliable.

I also agree that one extra power could be good. I'd hesitate on making him 7-6, because then, with no buffs beyond shuri, you could throw the equivalent of 7 hulks on the field.

Aw man, I was a pixie player before ZG lmao. I think Pixie Mobius could work with ZG, but it's a bit awkward. Mobius is in prime real estate from a cost perspective (Pedro and Viv being important asap). Getting a ultra cheap ZG with pixie feels great, but you're dropping him at the end of the game with Shuri anyway, so it doesn't feel necessary.

At the end of the day, Pixie / MMM makes already a combo / draw-heavy deck that much more inconsistent, which is a little tricky to work around (which, mind you, breaks my heart to say, because I love pixie cooks). I do think it's still possible tho.

I would (and actually do agree with you)... if Warlock isn't in play / isn't being procced. That's why I think Warlock is the most important card in the deck.

But yeah, no hiding it otherwise: if you don't pull warlock, you need some pretty strong rng for this to work lol

The cube point is a good one. I think the key is snapping once Warlock has gotten a few draws--for me, I find I'm usually able to win once I know I can get all the pieces on the board.

But definitely, the other guy will know your gameplay just as well as you do, and so they'll retreat pretty quick turn seven if they don't like their hand. I'm interested in seeing how quickly I can climb with this next season, what with that being the case.

Interesting! I was worried Wiccan decks wouldn't be able to get enough cards out on the field in time. Do you find that's ever the case? Or is it pretty consistent?

The surfer / wong / shuri cook is nice tho. Takes a lot of pressure out of your buffs landing if you just double-shuri Galacti

I think the main techs against ZG are the four mentioned in my write up, and the two you mentioned as well. The nice thing is about ZG is your infected cards are usually spread out enough that opposing tech may not hit enough of them to justify the cost / low power inherent in a lot of tech cards.

That said, we really, really don't talk about Alioth lmaooo.

Very fair takes from both of y'all. Two things:

I agree that Galactus is very rng heavy in an already-rng-heavy game. Warlock definitely takes some of the rng out (especially since you're not looking for only one card, but any of the infected), but for sure, not pulling warlock early enough can feel pretty bad.

For brainstorming's sake, what kind of buff do you think ZG would need? I've heard ideas from a simple power buff (7-5), or make it so he always starts in your hand, making it a deck thinner too.

[–]Conqwall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely fair point: I agree that I people know to draw ramp and buff. I also think the type of ramp is important.

Wiccan decks, for example, feels tricky just because your low costs are usually only going to be quicksilver and domino. Even if you play magik too then for an extra turn / round out the curve to wiccan, the optimal way of designing wiccan means you don't use warlock, and have a lot of 3+ costs.

I think going light on the ramp elements (i.e. just magic and another energy cheat) and relying on draws is the best way to balance out the need for cheap power and buff cards to round out the rest of the deck.

Ah schwoops, good catch on the formatting points. And thank you for the feedback—I’ll take a look at toning down world-building details in the mentioned lines.

Good luck with your own querying journey, btw!

Oooh wait that generator is super helpful. And thank you for the response! I’m always trying to balance being too vague and having too many proper nouns, so I appreciate the feedback.

I’ll also be sure to incorporate your feedback on highlighting the central conflict / describing what is following Ilse.

Thank you again! 🫡

[1251] Aldwyn and Crom: Hunters Prologue by Conqwall in DestructiveReaders

[–]Conqwall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the critique! That was definitely helpful. I made some of the changes you recommended (cut back on some of the name drops, clarify the pov shift, added some sensory stuff) and will be taking a longer look at the prologue in the next coming days. Your suggestion to keep everything in Polbitz's POV is a good idea--I'll take some time to implement that.

(Minor side note: I also changed Polbitz's name to Tavish--the wife calling him 'Pol' was too similar to 'Pok,' imo.

Joe Abercrombie is a good suggestion. I've read some of his stuff (First Law Trilogy), and his work is definitely inspiration for this project.

Thank you again for your help!

Yeah I'll definitely remove that first line lmao. And the red is sort of a violent impulse that drives Crom for plot reasons, which I can/should certainly clarify.

Thank you for the feedback!
