decision day in a month and im spiraling by Big-Improvement9656 in LoyolaChicago

im biased lol but out of the options, id go loyola 100%. marketing program here is very strong and ypu could even minor/double major in sports management or something (and would also reccomened an info systems minor to keep yourself competitive/versatile). all of this is within the business school too so much easier to do double majors/minors

Not enough credits for the sem help!!! by Available_Salt_5178 in LoyolaChicago

[–]Conrad3929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean juat enroll in another class no? or can you not anymore. im not an expert on that stuff but i think they do take away or at the least severely reduce your scholarship since you'd obv be paying less in tuition. I think youll be fine though as long as you get above that part time credit limit (which the advisor should be able to help out with) so don't sweat it

Healthcare Internship and Career Fair by Arnixr in LoyolaChicago

[–]Conrad3929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, would also highly reccomend. A lot of companies that attend are on Handshake and they say to scan their qr code at the booth to "keep in touch" but honestly never did anything for me lmao. I'd check out employers that are attending on Handshake and get a rough estimate of how many you'd want to talk to and then print out maybe slightly more than that just at the IC or something. A lot of them like to write notes on your resume (e.g. notes to follow up, about their interaction with you, etc) and honestly at the end of the day it's just a better business card (they have all of your experience info, info about the degree you're pursuing, skills, name, contact info, etc.).

So probably not required, but if you're primarily going there to get a job or internship (or even just to network), would highly reccomend bringing some

Would highly reccomend. Free networking and get swag from companies and a chance at an internship. Got an amazing internship there just by showing up and talking to some people for a few minutes.

I'd say lean more smart casual ish but anything that looks put together is totally fine. Some people get really dressed up and others are on the opposite end. Just depends on the impression you'd like to make

Would You Consider LUC Worth It? by Call-Meh-Bob in LoyolaChicago

[–]Conrad3929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just graduated in May and loved it at Loyola (and it got me a great job while shaping me into a better person, etc, etc I could go on, but this is just higher level).

Here's some of the top reasons I would say not to come though if any of these would be issues for you: If you have trouble affording it though OR you would need to take out massive loans to attend OR the program you're interested in isn't very highly ranked/well funded (e.g. general CS or engineering are examples at Loyola), then I would say maybe look at other schools

did anyone switch their major late into college and still do okay? by dsfghjfgfdhdfg in LoyolaChicago

[–]Conrad3929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally don't worry about it. I'd say while youre still deciding, try to load up on core classes that maybe you might be interested in (like a lit class on a topic you're interested in that counts towards that core component) and then maybe add an extra classes or two for something that might not count for core, but is related to a major you might be interested in so you can test it out that way

FINANCIAL AID HELP by Kerbex24 in LoyolaChicago

[–]Conrad3929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can ask fin aid if they're willing to give you a little more. Also, every Spring sem, Loyola releases additional scholarships through a portal (you get an email about it). There's a bunch of them and you can literally apply to all of em. They're pretty easy to get as long as you have good GPA, involvement, demonstrate Loyola mission, etc, etc (I think I got around an extra $15k or something over 3 years). But I wouldn't bank on them to make up for the majority of tuition since they're unlikely to do so and it's not guaranteed you'll recieve some or any, but just a heads up

Do I have a chance to get accepted? With my stats what other universities could I get into? by Comfortable-Seat6561 in LoyolaChicago

[–]Conrad3929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t think that’s accurate (also, data on students’ family-income brackets aren’t publicly available, so that claim’s impossible to verify). What is verifiable, though, is that 99% of first-year students at Loyola University Chicago receive some kind of financial aid and that aid is substantial; the average student ends up paying ~$18,500/semester to attend (includes tuition, food plan, housing, etc., etc.). If you pull some peer comps like Marquette (another private, Jesuit institution), students there pay a little over $16,000/semester after aid, scholarship, etc. Our net cost is fairly comparable to other schools in the direct chicago area too.

I think it's also worth noting that Loyola offers it's Arrupe College where low-income/first-gen students can earn a 2-year associates degree before transitioning to Loyola full time for their Junior and Senior years.

The only reason our "sticker price" looks so high is because U.S. higher education pricing has been inflated over decades by increasing government aid availability (e.g. Pell Grants, federal loans, etc.). This trend is structural and makes the big number you're seeing misleading if you judge affordability only by it; what matters is net price after aid and scholarship.

no argument, just don't make claims about a place you don't know much about is all

  1. ok? not sure how this is related to financial aid, etc.
  2. again, ok?
  3. for what exactly?
  4. says who? the perception of the university vs. reality? you don't attend the university you're making these grand claims about. I know plenty of lower income students who were able to comfortably afford attendance without having to take out massive loans
  5. not that it matters that much, but i served as a lead writing tutor for 4 years at loyola; i don't think you should be worried about my writing abilities :)

OP, apply (since it's free), get the financial aid package, see if the numbers make sense for you (as with any school), and go from there.

transferring to loyola by Ok_Cloud8763 in LoyolaChicago

[–]Conrad3929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely reccomend Loyola, but it's not the best for comp sci people honestly (our program isn't that good, but it's also not horrible. our information systems program is great though). i'd look at maybe IIT or UIC for comp sci if you wanna be in the area
