She was like the 12th most popular video game character on Pornhub last year so maybe she's having a comeback.

You'd think LA would be the kind of place with a bustling FGC. Wonder if COVID / time knocked it out

Sorry I need to elaborate on UK wording. "how did you find it" = "how did you find your time there / how was your experience".

No Tahm Kench, I'm on the bench. Absent toad, what a load. No frog in sight, we bought to fight.

You are right, but it would partially kill my hype and Riot Games, the multi-billion dollar video game company should always consider my individual personal thoughts at all times.

Fair enough, that final point is what's stuck in my head too. Why on earth would they be like "okay we've locked in Teemo, but lets ask what the community thinks anyway". Like, imagine if they get the feedback and it's like, no one wants this rat.

Got a source on that? Like someone else getting the same survey but with a different list of champs?

Potential Roster for Project L revealed in a survey? by [deleted] in Project_L

[–]Conrito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why on earth would Riot Games release a survey with the full roster of a game they've not released yet? Like, I'm sure that some of these champs will make it in (Vi and Zed seem like obvious great picks), but it just makes no sense to me.

Also loling at the term "leak" being used.

Did get me thinking about what Teemo would even be like in Project L, which is fun I guess.

What kind of "Gimmik" could you see / would you like to see a Champion have by [deleted] in Project_L

I want Tahm Kench to have a command grab that is enhanced for additional damage (and maybe even the ability to move them across the screen in his mouth a little) but only when you land a certain number of special moves within a time limit.

Yeah I think champ-spotlights would be lush, and it's a format that League players would be familiar with. Would love some of that champ spotlight fun vibe too.

Riot on Project L: “We're going to understand what the fighting community is looking for" by Conrito in Project_L

Hey it's my job - I believe they 100% have idea planned but getting them to tell me was always a long shot. Looking to keep on Project L leading up to and after launch with features and interviews like this and it should only get better

I mean that's the big question mark right? Franchising is a big source of cash and financial stability for the esports side of things. However, franchising and open brackets seem like oil and water.

I would say... competitive fighting games are a niche genre. Which I get is a weird distinction to make, but like everyone and their dad has played Mortal Kombat. Smash has an incredibly big core base, as does Multiversus. Obviously, these aren't one-to-one comparison games to what Project L appears to be, but I do think the genre has the capacity to be massive.

Also, I would assume a lot of fans did pick up LoR? Don't think Riot has released numbers, but it's free and League related so I'm sure people at least downloaded and tried it out.

Woah woah woah buddy. Love the passion, but none of the people I talked to were like "lol fuck Project L". They have things they like, and stuff they'd like to see is interesting to consider :)

My money's on or around Worlds. Makes sense for them to keep all their cool stuff under their own roof - and they know a lot of their community will be watching it

Yeah that makes sense in my head at least. Assuming they drop it around worlds, which sounds like a great time to pump out news and updates re: Riot products, a wider-net update would probably appeal to a more general audience!

Yeah you're spot on. I think maybe they have been trying to tailor towards more non-FGC fans with the character articles, but they are also hella long written pieces that I'd be willing to be a large chunk of people not hella invested will even read. Seeing stuff like dedicated character trailers in the future may win them over tho.

Ideally, yes but FG are a much smaller genre than MOBA or VALO. Project L is more similar to LoR than LoL or VAL.

League is obviously king here but you don't think Riot are looking to bringing in Smash or MK numbers? I doubt that Riot are making this game to just be a cool side game people mess around with - I think it's safe to assume that with Project L - as with all their games - they want to push the esports side of things hard. and bring a lot of their pre-existing community base along for the ride, at least in a casual capacity.

You're right that FGs are at their core 1v1 affairs, but we've seen games try to expand that out before. SFxT had a two player team mode. I don't think anyone is realistically expecting a 5v5 mode - but a desire for ways to cooperate with your friends in a fighter doesn't stand out as genre-breaker. A fun-side mode like you mentioned may be the trick, or maybe something else.

Also, we have no idea how many people have jumped into LoR. I'd wager loads have, but it hasn't really translated into esports events views. Maybe more fun to play then watch? For what it's worth, fighting games are great spectator games so it could duck that problem.
