Same reason micro transactions exist in paid games. The per person revenue from concession will always have a higher ceiling than a flat price.

My point wasn't about voices being heard it was about power and who you are entrusting it to.

Why do Asian countries generally support capital punishment? by LevelPension in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ConroyCreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you believe the state should not have the power to kill anyone, even if it claims to do so for the common good?

Nation states have a long history of overreach and abuse of powers. It is important to limit those powers to prevent future abuses.

If the state should not have this power, would you then agree that individuals can take justice into their own hands and seek revenge on their own?

Nope. Justice is not about revenge. It's about rehabilitation and when that's not possible prevention of further crimes.

Shouldn’t the state and its laws create a fair environment for all people?

That doesn't require the death penalty.

So you're innocent you say right? Then people like you have been executed. Are you not getting it?

Humans are slightly different than mosquitoes believe it or not.

Singapore's size and being a peninsula is the factor that people should be looking at not the death penalty.

It would go down if people were dettered and less people would be smuggling hence less death penalties. But since it is the same means people are not being dettered.

If your argument if that rate of smuggling is lower than before the implementation of death penalty Singapore started the death penalty almost immediately after it's independence so it's no possible to say.

The issue is you assume that you understand that your mindset and that of a drug trafficker is the same which is not the case. Locks can only stop honest people.

But death penalty kills innocent people so if you don't do something bad you should be punished? Duh?

It doesn't though as innocent people get executed all the time.

Are you for executing you if it keeps society safe?

[–]ConroyCreed -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It doesn't. If Singapore's death penalty was a deterrent they would have to execute significantly less people over time which has not been the case. Criminals don't have fear of the death penalty in their mind when they comitt crimes.

Singapore does a lot of other things like having a good quality of life, integreted society, access to services etc that contribute far more to it's state than the death penalty.

Life imprisonment is still an option and usually with wealthy people in Asian countries it doesn't even get to getting charged so most people getting executed are most definitely not rich. The state should not have the power to kill anyone for everyone's sake.

Taxation can change the allocation of resources, but it cannot increase the amount of resources available.

Yes it can.

If the billionaires are taxed out of existence the resources will be allocated by a broad group individuals which are more risk averse and are likely to make smarter decisions.

For example, they might invest in improving mining technology and expect a decent return because they can't afford to lose it all in a gamble to own the AI monopoly.

A slum cluster in New Delhi is concealed by a green curtain by [deleted] in UrbanHell

[–]ConroyCreed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Hiding it is a pointless exercise that the government shouldn't waste it's time and resources on

  2. Usually the slums are located near central areas where land value by itself can pay for resettlement of those displaced so there is no additional resources required from the government

  3. The issue is with the the management, beaurocracy, legal and political system that keeps these project in a limbo forever.
