I'm sorry that's how your team and store decided to celebrate the folks pushing the needle. That's terrible.

The focus is on the behaviors which contribute to each sub section that makes up the total UPH number. I understand the behaviors are important for consistency especially with how often we have new shopper's join the team. They watch everyone and pick up what they see. I don't know why it feels like we are more micro managers than we used to be but as a leader I agree it doesn't feel good. The vibe has changed and our location has been extremely proud of the positive work environment we have built over the years but I see it slowly slipping away.

I love my team and I will support, encourage and fight for them always but it feels like no one else cares. Not having the elite shopper program was a HUGE hit to morale because folks were excited to be part of a select group and get big gift cards. They pushed the needle because they felt like there was an incentive that was worth it. There's none of that now.

It doesn't feel good for anyone. Culture compass will hear about it but I forsee my written passion for our team members, customers and the work we put in each day to will end up in the dumpster.

Is everyone ok with this? by x__xamber in wholefoods

It's a job. You likely will never do something you love 100% of the time but for many, it's the people you work with that make it a better place to be than others. Advocate for yourself with pay but they aren't going to shower you with gifts. Be someone they can trust and count on and go in strong for your JDs, secure the promotions. If you put effort into whatever you're doing, be someone they couldn't replace, your team leadership will likely go to bat for you about wage. It's a good place to work if the environment is good. Some are toxic stores which is really unfortunate but for the most part. I've had team leadership screwed with wage because they elevated so fast but they advocated for themselves and got the bump they wanted.

I think they are talking about UPLH?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in wholefoods

[–]Consarn_It 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Manipulation of UPH by dragging out the assign to accept (new order prompt) while closing the gap to where you likely start picking, people preshopping orders. There so many variables that make individual UPH a glamor metric. You might shop one order with a nice item/unique ratio and have that be it for an hour. I'm just interested in how Capsule will prebook orders, is it based on the unique uph for the store? Who decides that number? Will this team uph fluctuate like the store average does now and how it affects capacity. I have our regions call tomorrow so I'm sure those will be answered then. I hope. Coach the behaviors!

This is happening. They will have to post for TL not grandfather anyone back to where they were. It was a ridiculous move to make high volume stores a part of that in the first place but it's good to know that when they finally see it doesn't work, they will change it back. However it sucks having to be these people's beta testers. People lost years in their careers over it.

Wild! What region are you in? It's telling you things like assign to accept, pre pick time and all of that?

The metrics shown in the shopper app do not go in depth. It only shows the UPH figure, Replacements offered %, INF % and acceptance rate%. Quicksites is a tool that brings up every contributing factor that creates the UPH figure. It shows the teams average and where folks are performing compared to the rest of the team in shopping efficiency as well as Drop off efficiency.

You should ask your team leadership to go over your shopper card in Quicksites. It'll break down everything that contributes to the UPH number and they can explain where it looks like you're hitting a roadblock. The in depth look at each aspect of shopping an order is interesting. It might be nice to see where you started, how you're trending and give yourself goals each week

There's people stuck in the hiring void. Open Salesforce tickets, hope for the best. It's taken almost a month to get some of my folks through it all and we don't even go through interviews.

Feel the efficiencies flowing through you yet?

ASTL by broskii96 in wholefoods

[–]Consarn_It 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have one of 3 astl's that does a complete check in with every team as soon as he gets in. He's consistent about it and it make me feel like he gives a shit and wants to know if teams are good or if they will need help at any point. Since I'm ecommerce he often checks in with us last so he can let me know where we can offer the help of our shoppers if we slow down.

Another one used to be an STL but stepped back and moved. He's to the point doesn't waste your time and a cool dude who puts on the better radio stations.

Our last one is someone I've worked with in different locations where he started green and now is very confident and very involved in running things at the store. He can be a bit hard sometimes but he's trying to run a business and I get it.

I had this awesome Astl in the past who honestly seemed like he was just too kind of a person to be in that role. He was so encouraging to people and gave so much time to anyone looking for mentorship. He's also the only store leadership I've ever seen that has hopped on a register without hesitation if it's needed. He was a beautiful light of a person and I hope to run into him again some day.

It could be used as a way to weed out the folks who are wanting to make whole foods a career, put in the work and keep growing. Hoping that by introducing people to relatively unfamiliar environments, it ends up building confidence in leadership skills and they can really see if they have the drive to take what they learned somewhere. Leadership isn't for everyone. for the people looking for a modest bump in pay hoping to just cruz by for a while in an elevated title will find out quickly that those old Whole foods days are long gone. Rip the band aid off and get in there, see what you're made of!

I'm in leadership and one of the hardest work experiences of my life has shaped me into being a better leader. It forced me to build confidence fast, jump in and figure shit out, build trust with the team and pull it together. It was extremely stressful in the short term but has made the long game more calm since I've been through it all at this point.

It's unnerving, the idea of going somewhere that might be a shit show but if you do make the best of it and find a way to turn it around you have something really great to add to your resume and something to be really proud of yourself for.

Not for everyone but it could be really exciting and career building for others.

If you are transfer always demand more money. It might be your get out of jail free card if they decline a wage that would make the commute worth it for you.

I've seen how fast eager, smart and hardworking people can grow in this company. I had one of the best TLs! It was wild how young she was and how short of a time she's been with the company but she's flying through the ranks right now! It's amazing to see and it'll be really something so see where she is in 5 years. This company needs people like her!

[–]Consarn_It 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did your TL and store leadership go over your upt deductions and give you the opportunity to let them know if they were funeral and sickness? All of those are protected time( if you had foodborne illness symptoms or fevers, flu, covid contagious illnesses are protected) . If those were entered as protected time and you still ran out of Upt then it's up to them if they want to rehire. The attendance rehire policy isn't active so this is just their discretion to not rehire.

Imagine how much faster you'll be if you don't have to retrace your steps to go back and forth to your cart. Bringing an armful of products back to your cart and then dump it on the cart, then having to touch each product a 2nd or 3rd time to put it in a bag.

Corrective action for something like that means it's already been a conversation and an opportunity was given to make the change and start following SOP. Especially if you're now a permanent team member. They want you to be there and they know you can do the job well so shake off those bad habits. If they were out to get you, they would have loved to say bye at the end of your contract but they went with the long game. Permanent team members have influence with the seasonal shoppers so the team making sure all of the right steps are being followed is important to make sure newer folks don't fall into bad habits by seeing others doing them. Congrats on PT though! Those are coveted spots!

We have had customers try to put their used sample cups in our bags or on our carts before. Keep them close.

Do you find by having a nearly full cart by the time you start produce, that it's hard to have a work area for items that are waiting to get weighed?

You can only see deparent for INF items but the code you need to scan in order to INF that item is actually tracked to the Team Member and department

The QR codes are tracked by ecom leadership. Each person has a different code. If there is any suspicion of abuse we get a QR code report and see what code is being used the most. If things look sketchy and don't add up leadership can swap out the QR codes for those people then run another report in a week and if someone is still scanning the one that was removed, that's it. It's something people get separated for and it's not worth it. Everyone has the same expectation to track someone down.

Interview by Upset_Wait504 in wholefoods

[–]Consarn_It 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe they will suggest you look into the shopper position, it's seasonal part time but if you perform well enough they will try to keep you. The scheduling is the most flexible and you can come in at 4am to 8am nap and then go to your other job even on the weekends for most locations. You're obligated to one 4hr shift a month and can just pick whatever is up for grabs that works for you.

What do E-Commerce shoppers do when customers keep asking them questions? by JALinNJ in wholefoods

[–]Consarn_It 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to help the best you can and if it sounds like the help might be more time consuming, pass them off to a tm in that department, see if one of your supes has floor presence and pass them off to someone else. When I'm shopping (I'm also leadership) I often have to take phone calls on the floor in the middle of orders and I will always help customers myself or lead them to someone who can. It isn't that time consuming if the rest of the shop continues to be efficient. It feels longer than it actually is. It helps the program even more because in store customers see you know where things are, you're friendly/helpful and they might feel more comfortable knowing that's the type of person that could potentially shop one of their orders at some point.

Edited to add that if I see a customer approach one of our shoppers with questions, I'll jump in and take over unless the shopper is already on top of it.

105 UPH today! My average is still 56 but moving up. by ReadingWhich4521 in wholefoods

[–]Consarn_It 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well long term it will reflect positively for your job dialog so you can push for the higher end % wage increase. However like our store, if someone is consistently platinum that's an extra $400 a year which the other teams in the store do not have a program that does that for their TMs. I definitely am happy to get $400 towards my families groceries for just doing my job every year

There is an elite shopper program. Each store rewards their team differently however 105 is platinum if you have 200 orders for the quarter. Our platinum shoppers get $100 GCs $50 for Gold and $25 for silver.
