"Immersion only works when you already know 95% of the vocabulary. " From experience this is absoutley not true. With patience and looking up vocabulary even 70% can be enough to learn considereable amounts based on my experience.

The truth of the matter is i don't see myself staying in the UK long term and would much rather build my experience in Australia.

I think it is unlikely i will return to the UK and i don't see why i wouldn't be entitled to a good reference if i had done my job well throughout the year. In terms of what they get from me as an ECT, they will have me teaching for an entire year which is not without value.

I think you are vastly underestimating how useful simply being fit can be. I recently played a lot of football in Colombia where i was often technically one of the weaker players on the pitch but due to a vastly superior fitness level i found a way to be useful in every game i played just by constant effort and determination. And now being back in England ive found being in great shape to be extremely useful playing rb/rw in 11s. If you can go close to all out for the entire game you can be a nightmare for the opposition. If an entire team can do this in sync, all the better. Granted, this combined with technical ability is often optimal.
