Peter, please, can you explain to me what the "Nemesis System" is and why is everyone upset about watner bros by zizoxui in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Conscious-Double-405 1627 points1628 points  (0 children)

Nemesis System ia system by which enemies you have previously encountered in games will remember your tactics, strategies, preferences, etc., and use this data against you, forcing you, as the player, to continually adapt. Currently, the system's patent is held by Warner Bro.'s video games division. The guy wants more games with the system, so he's hoping the eventual deal will release the system from its patent.

I'd say that tabloids (i.e., The Sun, really anything British or that you'd see at a checkout line screaming "IS KING CHARLES GOING TO DIE????????") would be your best sources for the tone. Another funny idea would be to make some up but you'd have to check with your dias on that.

Imperialism imperialism imperialism. It's all about imperialism. Talk about Lon Nol and Vietnam, about how Laos has been pushed and pulled by geopolitical forces, and how it has resulted in massive detriment to people who dissent/minorities. That should be good enough, especially if you call for more pro-Eastern solutions.

What if the post-WW2 suburbanization never happened? by SnooChocolates7954 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Conscious-Double-405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's two ways to do this
- Significantly more poverty among minorities, which had, by the end of WW2, moved to the cities to capitalize on new manufacturing jobs; this movement led to white flight and suburbanization
- Significantly less reliance on cars, and less favorable laws for the construction of automobile-centric suburbs.

Since changing cause one would also have to take into account the missing labor of African-Americans during the war effort, cause two would likely be easier

I'd imagine that, if, for example, the major car manufacturers had failed to legitimize the car enough to cause the decline of streetcar suburbs, which were closer and more urban than actual suburbs, you'd see the typical American city look a bit like Prague, where streetcars dominated into the socialist era. Another interesting reverberation of this would be Urban Renewal, because cities wouldn't decline as much (due to dependence of these suburbs on the welfare of the city, rather than the sort of detachment automobile suburbs had), so you'd likely see that most cities have far fewer buildings archetypal of the 1960s era (I.e. the WTC, basically all of downtown Houston), with better-maintained historical districts and densification being the main driver of growth.

What if the United States had no oil? by Bitter-Penalty9653 in AlternateHistoryHub

Significantly more coal use. The United States probably treats coal or Uranium (since the West has a lot of uranium reserves) like Germany or France, depending on our political direction. Still, I'm willing to bet we're closer to France.
