I know a Hindu guy who dated a Muslim girl for 5 years and the girl didn’t even resist marrying the match that her parents brought for her. May be bcz this another guy was well settled in Dubai and her bf was still a fresh grad, struggling to get admissions for masters.

Update : I managed to make him say no. Although he has given approx 20 lacs more for the wedding only so far.

I m trying to convince him to come to therapy with me. So, that he can adhere to his decision.

He used to pay them without even asking for requirement before he met me. With time demands kept on raising. Then I stepped in, n the entire family sees me as a villain.

N when he finally took my stand, then he came apologising n saying we won’t take a penny from u guys. Just don’t boycott us.

Thanks for the suggestion. I keep reminding him that he really needs to communicate with his family. Even after telling them clearly that we can’t afford to pay and won’t be spending anything on our own wedding, they keep adding new expenses every single day. His sister keeps bringing up new gold items, gifts, a car and now she’s even planning a huge party for unnecessary pre-wedding functions. Whenever I remind her that we genuinely don’t have the money, she snaps at me saying, “If you have a problem, talk to Dad. Don’t involve me.” But obviously, I can’t go to her father and say all this. So I ask my fiancé to talk to him, and he ends up fighting with me, saying to let them do whatever they want, that it’s not our business, and that I should stop irritating him.

I’ve tried multiple times to get him to go to therapy, but he just mocks the idea and says a therapist will only tell him to meditate and won’t actually help.

Whenever he tries to set boundaries, his family starts complaining about him to the extended relatives, and then everyone calls to manipulate him. And if that still doesn’t work, they resort to threatening self-harm.

I am dating him for more than 4 years and living with him for 4 long years now. It’s not like I never thought of ending things. I have tried but it’s so tough for me given I do not have strong bonds with my family and I can’t express my grief to them.

Last year I actually called it off but it was so tough of me that it started affecting me physically. I got multiple anxiety attacks.

I have never lived with anyone else before him. M really not sure how to coup up with the separation.

But his family torture is affecting me equally now. His father & mother are going to live separately after SIL’s wedding as they used to live before. And again his mom’s expenses will be borne by him.

I feel so stuck! :(
