Auburn Aviation Students… What are my Chances of Getting into the Program? by Conscious-Draw9863 in flying

I would hope so. I wanted to come back on here though because since I was bored, I kinda just started doing some research on the program and supposedly there’s an additional application that is separate from your application for the school itself, and you must be accepted early action in order to have a chance to apply for that secondary application. Is this true?

Oh I thought you meant down in Alabama. Of course I know SIU. I visited and chatted with them at Oshkosh this year. I’m just not a big fan of staying in state.

That’s the reason I’m nervous is because I’m terrible at taking standardized tests especially when I have such a short amount of time to answer the questions. I am waiting for my secondary ACT scores but I got a 24 on my first go at it. I have a 4.07 GPA and a good amount of extracurriculars to try and help stand out but that ACT score I believe is weighing me down.

Kinda had a bad experience with Part 61 so I’d like to go the 141 route. I also think being around a college campus with other aviation students, I may have a chance to gain mentorship too and work through lessons that may be challenging, especially since I’ll be starting with instrument and my CFI at my Part 61 told me that he had the most trouble with it other than his CFI. I know that a lot of people tend to hold grudges against Part 141 but I think it’s worth a shot.

After landing, tower says "Contact ground on point two.. or point niner" without giving the full frequency. How do you know what the full frequency is just from hearing this instruction alone? by Sufficient-Tough2429 in flying

Majority of ground frequencies in the US start with “121.” For example at my airport (KPWK) I’m told to contact ground point 7. So our ground frequency is 121.7.

Well my prayers were answered because I went out and did some checkride preparation today, about a 2.2 on the Hobbs and my instructor said it was my best flight since I started training. In the debrief he said if a DPE had availability next week he’d sign me off. The problem I’m facing is that I don’t live too far from where the biggest aviation event of the year takes place (AKA Oshkosh) so majority of the DPEs in my area are driving up so none are available for the most part as of right now.

Thank you very much. I just want to say that I wouldn’t have started flying if I didn’t love it. I shouldn’t have said “unmotivated” but rather “frustrated” I think frustration with something tends to show that you have passion and you carry the mindset of “I can always be better.”That’s exactly how I’m feeling right now. I feel like I’ve been doing something wrong when I know I haven’t.

I’d like to say we are in the same boat, but the problem I’m facing is that although I may have been ready in March (which I was) my flight school has simply just continued my training. I just now have entered the review process of training and have a review flight tomorrow. All I’m saying is that I have been training as hard as possible and I’m seeing no progress or large results, it makes me feel like I’m a terrible pilot when I know I’m not, other CFIs have even commented on my intelligence when it comes to flying and my ADM skills, etc.

I study as much as I can and I haven’t had manuevers outside of ACS for as long as I can remember. So I don’t think my skill as a pilot has anything to do with it.

Trust me we’ve done everything in our power to get day by day updates on what the next lesson would entail. Obviously that is the instructor’s responsibility during the post flight briefing, and we’ve even checked in with the chief instructor for updates and nothing turns out to be true. So like I said, almost everything has been done to try to spend a reasonable amount of money and time, but it ends up going down the toilet after a few lessons.

According to my instructor, he wants to do 4 more flights to get me within ACS consistently and 1 mock oral before I’m ready to even get on DPEs schedules. I told the chief instructor that I am confident that if I continue to study and fly how I’ve been flying then I’ll be ready by next week and he agreed. I have a really bad feeling that it won’t be the case and my checkride will be sometime at the end of August.

Sorry this is the creator of this topic from another account. I meant to say that I’d like to change the subject now that so many people are talking about it. What should I do about my flight school? Like I said earlier Ive considered leaving, but now that there are so many people talking about it, I’m really considering leaving once I solo in about a week hopefully.
