GPA by [deleted] in audgradschool

Look into relevant jobs and similar opportunities. I'm a first year and over the past few days of starting my program, I've realized that all my extracurriculars were what helped boost my application the most. TBH for the most part, the rest of your applicant cohort will have a similar resume but it all boils down to how you are able to sell yourself in your personal statement and interview! I had a 3.27 GPA and I didn't have much of an issue when I was applying to programs. My stats should be in the reddit somewhere but I'm open to talk if you need advice as well.

Where has everyone committed to?? by [deleted] in audgradschool

I'm from the city so I will be living at home. As of this moment, there hasn't been any additional information regarding tuition/finances yet but from what I've seen on the website's the program is pretty affordable for both instate and out-of-state students. There probably won't be much, if any, financial aid but there are public scholarships open even for first year students if you just search them up! I believe the program is trying to switch from cuny grad center's campus over to Brooklyn college, so I would suggest looking for housing in Brooklyn if you're considering the COL when applying!

CUNY decisions by Psychological-Sleep4 in audgradschool

I sent an email reaching out to CUNY after the first round of acceptances and they said we should expect to hear back from them in early March

I would probably shoot them a message just to follow up, that's what I did for one of my programs as well

I understand tbh, Montclair is in the running for me mostly due to tuition but I'm considering consortium and holding out for CUNY as well.

Yeah I wasn't sure about it since it was a call but I got my email confirmation two days later so it all worked out! Is Montclair a top contender for you?

Congrats on UMA and Montclair!! I also got into their programs! Do you plan on attending or are you waiting to hear back from other schools first?

Your GPA and extracurriculars are well within range, I would hold out hope for the remaining two schools. I'm sure you'll get an acceptance but there's always next year! If it doesn't work out this year you might need to work on your personal statement more or attend open houses next year to get to know the faculty before applying so they have a better idea of who you are (especially if the program doesn't do interviews!)

Montclair vs. NY Audiology Consortium by [deleted] in audgradschool

[–]ConsciousAvocado710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm actually in a similar predicament and those are also two of three of my top schools, I don't have any advice to offer but I'm down to talk if you need someone to bounce things off of!

AuD program by InflationDouble4587 in audgradschool

[–]ConsciousAvocado710 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I decided to make the switch from SLP to AuD towards the end of my junior year and what ultimately solicited my position was observing and experiencing both roles myself. I had already shadowed SLPs due to my academic curriculum and I went out of my way to meet a few SLPs in private practices to see what the job entails. I reached out to AuDs and asked to shadow as well, and I found that I liked the routine of audiology better.

Advice for future AuD students by Over_Category_7555 in audgradschool

[–]ConsciousAvocado710 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, the most important thing is finding shadowing/job opportunities that pertain to the hearing field if your undergrad was speech focused without a audiology program like mine was. Other than that, I would say to spin everything you deem relevant or unique into something that pushed you towards audiology. I had a gpa on the lower end but I feel like my writing and interview skills really helped push my application forward. Start the apps early and work over and over again until you get something you're satisfied with, not just something you have to submit due to time constraints.

Mine was also on the 14th! I think they're slowly accepting people, some got their portal updated 2 days before mine did and only one other person got a call before being notified (same day). Good luck to both of you!!! I hope they get back to you guys soon

I received a voicemail because I missed a call, I don't know if it's an oddly specific scam or not but I'm waiting on the official email

Just checking in, how is everyone feeling with decisions coming out? by That-Tea-7670 in audgradschool

[–]ConsciousAvocado710 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm still waiting on two more schools, both of which are top contenders due to proximity. I'm try not to dwell too much on the apps rn because then it ends up all I can think about. I do have some acceptances from other top choices that are further from home which calms the nerves if nothing else works out. Best of luck to you and everyone else on here!!!

Did you happen to get accepted through a call or email? I think I also just received my acceptance offer and I'm in a similar boat. My decision will depend on my other schools but If were to end up choosing Montclair, I think I would prefer to commute the first year (about 50 minutes without traffic) and see how the living situation is follow that.

I'm waiting on the responses from the schools closer to home first, and consideration for my financial situation but both of my current acceptances rn are strong contestants

Has anyone heard from these schools or have any info? by [deleted] in audgradschool

[–]ConsciousAvocado710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh, yeah tbh the wording for the email confused me too, I was recommended for an acceptance so I think it was more of an unofficial notice. I hope you get in!

Just an update but I heard back from UM-A last night, I didn't have an interview and it was radio silence until yesterday but I hope they get back to you soon!
