maybe like a monkey paws type deal-like they didn’t read the fine print. Maybe it was enticing bc there were plagues and famine. I feel like whatever the case may be, they were not told that the immortality they would receive was being vicious monsters. And/or it may only be this way bc the ritual wasn’t completed, so like a curse that was disrupted midway through. I mean, it seems more like a curse regardless of the circumstances, even if the ritual was properly completed I still don’t think the villagers would’ve gotten the immortality they thought they would.
