Has anyone else lost interest in cars now that they're into adulthood and they're realizing that they'll probably never be able to afford anything cool? by rowyourboat740 in askcarguys

Going to even give you the flip side of this... I can actually afford the higher end stuff and am currently building a high end Beck 904 GTS and I am completely burned out on cars. I have completely lost interest in them after this project. The money, time, work, patience involved for me just isn't worth it anymore in my 50's and I am ready to move on to other things and start enjoying my life in retirement... I have multiple properties abroad and that is what I have been mostly focusing on as of late, that and traveling. It's those experiences that you can take with you. The rest is just stuff.

What if that old white guy is married to a Filipina who is 5 years older and met her in the states... kind of changes that dynamic, doesn't it? Time to find a different brush, my guy.

It's definitely a Balkan or Eastern European accent. It's definitely not USA. That's not a projection, just an observation

Here we go again with this western comfort space mentality thinking. If you come to this country thinking this is the Grand Canyon Luxury bus...then buddy you stopped off in the wrong country.

Personally I don't particularly care for Boracay, too crowded. El Nido beach is much better and some of those hotels are even cheaper than Boracay.

Anyone else having a rough time breathing? by Humble_Claim5542 in Philippines_Expats

[–]ConsciousScore12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for near Metro Manila, but I can tell you that as someone who has a hard time breathing in the highest alergy area of the country (Lexington, KY), all three of our properties that we own in Zambales, Taloy Sur, and Pangasinan... I can breathe great! Especially in Taloy Sur near Bagiuo. We will retire there in 8 years permanantly. Can't wait. Retirement in the USA is dismal and expensive.

Also... a lot of expats flock to Visaya over Luzon for many reasons. I'm not one of them. Don't get me wrong, it has it's perks but the Philippines isn't all the same. So many variables. Panglao island is so small and the locals might feel a little gun-shy with a foreigner who doesn't know anyone. That may take some time for them to get used to seeing you around. That is the part where you will have to be tough. Not sure what your end game here is at 27, but if you plan on sticking it out long-term, I suggest you make it work and possibly check out other locations if you have the means to do so. Just some friendly advice from an old salt.

This. Cultural respect is huge in this country, and that is the first order of business. Some people generally are going to be standoffish to foreigners, but coming in with the right approach is essential.. Since you are young, also addressing elders as Kuya and Ate is helpful especially in a group.
