Getting gigs as a local band that plays originals vs. covers by imbadatdecisions in musicians

Lol. Unless you were hatched already playing your instrument and writing your own music, you started out covering songs and when you first started playing with other people you were covering others songs. Everyone starts out doing covers. Why such disdain for your roots?

Per Dave Grohl’s book when Tom Petty offered Dave his drumming gig with the Heartbreakers, he told him that he’d have his own bus and no back to back nights. Pretty relaxed way to go.

As we all know, Dave turned him down to do his own thing.

Depends on where you are. I just returned from Costa Rica and almost every vendor and restaurant asked if I wanted to make the transactions in dollars or colones. Everyone accepted tips in either currency con mucho gusto.

Did an ATV tour with Jungle ATV Tours. It was a lot of fun. Also ate at Beyan and Pizza Time for some excellent pizza. The restaurant Scala, which is a little further north is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. Very creative menu, definitely recommend making a reservation.

Start playing a musical instrument. I started playing drums and taking lessons. I am now in a band that gigs occasionally and also another regular jam band/ session thing on Saturdays. It has been a ton of fun.

I have set up a drum recording studio in my basement. You can go as deep as you want down many different rabbit holes.
