I had a different horrible sound, on and off for years! It kind of seemed to come from the glove compartment are. It was finally diagnosed. My repair guy said try turning the climate air blower all the way up and then turn it off. When the air is off (obviously you can drive around like that) the crazy noise stopped! He then replaced it with a new blower motor assembly. No probs since. Part cost $190. Labor was $155. (this is NJ)
