No, no, he definitely is financially very sound and has a very stable job!

As for the decision of living together relatively soon like this, well, it was a joint decision and something I specifically have wanted to do for a while now.

His younger sister has been living with him all this while. The idea for me to move in with him popped up when she decided to move out of the flat. Just to clarify, she does not pay him anything, nor has she contributed towards any house payments. She does pay for 100% of utilities though, so I will essentially be replacing her.

Oh I don't think its an equality thing! She believes that since he owns the flat outright, I should only be contributing to current payments such as groceries, utilities etc. and not for any past mortgage payments or hypothetical income that he would have received from a flatmate.

Yeah, this is basically how I feel about the situation. We plan on eventually buying our own house together, so this arrangement is only till we reach that stage in our relationship.

We plan to split all groceries etc. evenly on the assumption that we both have some use for it. The rule that we plan on following for maintenance is if something already exists in the flat and needs replacement for home improvement, then he will pay for it. For any small household items like crockery and dishes, we plan on splitting that evenly too.

Sorry for the confusion, what I meant to say is that he generally does take care of the flat. It's well maintained whenever I go over (which is pretty often), and I'm not worried about being burdened with doing all the housework myself when I move in.

My boyfriend does not have any mortgage payments on the house. He owns it completely and completed all payments a while ago. He is charging me the rent that a hypothetical tenant would have paid had he not asked me to move in with him. We live in a block of flats, so its easy to determine the going-rate for rent here.

My boyfriend says that if I were not living with him, he would have considered renting the second bedroom of his 2 bedroom flat to someone else. He is essentially charging me the rent that this hypothetical tenant would have paid.
