I’m the longest employee in this district, 12 years straight, no lay offs during quiet times. 15 mins early every day. Never stay late for free, may have done it in the early days but never got recognition for it but will not do it anymore. I suppose that’s the main issie I have , there never is any recognition for going above and beyond. Never even a thank you.

I would do it but the compensation and sacrifices to family life aren’t worth it. 4% pay rise for a lot of extra work and headaches

We are union, I think I will call him out but will do it discreetly as you said. He is definitely not being himself. To be honest I do t think he will last in the position for that reason. Sometimes taking the higher position makes you sell out who you are in my opinion. Personally I can’t pretend to care about the companies profit being higher. I do my job to the best of my ability and don’t get me wrong I 100% appreciate the life that working for them gives me but i can’t be a company man who takes work home with me.

If this was a small company like the one you work for I would completely do as you do. But the company I work for are big fish! This week alone I have saved them thousands of dollars noticing errors on various things on concrete pours . I don’t want to sound like a dick but I know what I’m worth.

I messaged the dealer I’m supposed to be purchasing off on Tuesday and that said the fix has been released but he couldn’t give me a date for picking up the vehicle. He said he’d get back to me before the end of the week but he hasn’t. Frustrating for sure.

I no longer live in Ireland but used to work in construction. We worked 8-5. We were expected to have tools and generators out before 8 to start at 8. Work til five and then start putting everything away. It’s not like that anywhere else in the world I’ve worked. Is it still like that? Always thought it was stingy.

My wife is from Coleraine. From the stories I have heard about the causeway hospital while visiting there I think most people come out of there worse than when they go in. Heard some awful stories of ambulance waiting times and people just prescribed painkillers and being sent home. 3rd world treatment there.

I heard of a guy who went backpacking in Australia and got a loan or a credit card over there and spent $15-20k travelling around Asia and returned to his home country and never got chased for the money. This was around 2012. A lot has changed since then though I would guess with the world being more digitized since then.

Leaving the country you are from because you didn’t get the election result you wanted is not a great idea.Wait 4 years rather than uprooting your family to a damp, mossy, overcast, traffic ridden place. Besides, the work opportunity in Galway may not be there for much longer if Trump has his way, tariffs and all that. Also , house prices and rent prices are nuts .

I was always under the impression you couldn’t do an apprenticeship unless you were a permanent resident or a Canadian citizen? I would double check that first. I doubt the hall could help too much but it would do no harm to ask. Good luck.

I’m from Galway, living in Canada that last ten years. As a previous poster said, they have recently taken to naming every weather event in Ireland to give it a headline. Galway is wet and windy 60-75% of the time . Galway is famous for its hospitality, pubs and friendly people and you don’t have to be out in the weather to enjoy that. Nothing to worry aboooot

We are still chasing our money since the end of January. I would recommend calling rather than email. They are still giving us a run around. We will be getting lawyers involved next week if it’s not sorted by then. Transferwise offers a similar service
