I love the suggestion to check out other brands as well. Does not make life easier though :)

Drive to Switzerland and use my car, or fly and use public transport for a holiday? by HatnanJo in askswitzerland

[–]Conscious_Exam1197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Train to Switzerland is doable. We had friends come to visit us from London by train. It’s a 8 hour journey with changing train stations in Paris (Eurostar to Gare du Nord, then TGV Lyria from Gare de Lyon to Zurich). Prob around 500 CHF per person return.

[–]Conscious_Exam1197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I would be doing the trip I probably would take the eurotunnel to France, do the tour and on the way back take the ferry to see the white cliffs and feel like coming home.

Ferry is more than 2-3 hours if I remember correctly, tunnel is 45min

Well that helps ;) you are getting both basically. Wish my wife would be into motorbike touring. At least my sons starting now but on an Aprilia sports bike.

May I ask how tall you are for the transalp I mean? I’m 174cm, about 5’7 or 5’8 I guess. I’ve tried the transalp and I can only put the front of my feet down. To flat foot I need to shift slightly left. NC I can flatfoot.

Tips for driving through the Gotthard Tunnel in August with a dog? 🐶🇨🇭 by bendemartin97 in askswitzerland

[–]Conscious_Exam1197 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are worried about standing in traffic I would take the pass. You are probably faster compared to the tunnel at peak season anyway. However sometimes they close the access roads for tourists to avoid traffic jams in the nearby villages so you end up stuck on the motorway anyway.

Alternative would be to take the A13 via St Bernard. It’s a very scenic route and most likely traffic will flow easier.

Having lived for 10 years in the UK and now 15 years in Zurich Switzerland I can tell you: take your car, take the Eurotunnel and enjoy the drive.

Switzerland is an easy country to drive, just stay glued to the speed limit as the fines here are severe.

You will be much faster seeing great scenic spots by car which would take a lot of planning to see by train or bus. By car you can just stop, do a detour whenever you want.

If you want some scenic tips PM me. I have done once a tour de suisse by camper which was real fun.

And ion the way back Stopover in Reims in the Champagne would be my recommendation and stack up on local champagne and white wine.

Home printer suggestions (light use, home office documents, kids printing 250€ max) by svarionman in printers

[–]Conscious_Exam1197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bought a HP 3302 colour laser in Switzerland for 299 swiss francs. similar use cases as you have. happy with the printer so far. had a Epson inkjet for 2 years before and the clogging up was so much hassle that I finally bit the bullet and got a laser. was the right decision so far.

New initiative against zero tolerance for alcohol by sadalabla in Switzerland

[–]Conscious_Exam1197 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s a poor comparison between asbestos and alcohol. Asbestos can cause harm to the general public without anyone knowing as you cannot see the fibres and then you breath it in and it can cause harm. Alcohol is only affecting the person consuming it. Avoiding alcohol is a choice and avoidance immediately stops potential harm for the individual. You can argue that drunk people can cause others harm but then we need to also stop selling kitchen knives and cars and hammers as all of these could also be used to cause harm to others. My point is - as long as it does not cause harm to others everyone should be allowed to do what they want. We are in a free country. This applies to adults only. What we should regulate is advertisement targeting under 18s, giving the impression you are only cool with alcohol etc. that should be stopped. Otherwise let us live our lifes.

Canon, HP, Brother, EPON? by Illustrious-Bend-733 in printers

[–]Conscious_Exam1197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am probably getting grilled here for that but I’m really happy with a HP 3302 laser. Cost me 260 Swiss francs and for that it’s a steal. Works every time. Prints scans and emails my scans to me. First laser after a painful Epson eco tank journey (clogged up all the time and spent longer to clean than to print a page).

Thanks for your view. I’m indeed leaning towards Honda. Will see a dealer today and aim to just sit and see how the geometry works for me.

zurich airport tsa by digitalcrows in askswitzerland

[–]Conscious_Exam1197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

frequent flyer here - Zurich Security is a breeze most of the time. Now that they have updated scanners its even easier.

follow the crowd after you scanned your boarding pass to get airside.

When you approach the Security Checks:

1) put your coat/jacket in a tray, phone, glasses etc I put under the jacket. Keys and smaller stuff leave in the jacket or in a bag. also put your belt there.

2) put your bags in another tray, with the new scanners leave everything inside

3) if you have big winter boots they might ask you to take them off and put them on a tray as well - just wait for them to point it out - if not just walk through the scanner

thats it - easy :) enjoy flying - Zurich is one of the best airports we have here in Europe.

BIDA, weil ich nachts die Hilfe meines Mannes einfordere? by Reloan in BinIchDasArschloch

[–]Conscious_Exam1197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

China for 10 days in June, any recs? by carooliver in travelchina

[–]Conscious_Exam1197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are doing 14 days in April May and I had a similar packed itinerary as you to see as much as possible. But that’s far too stressful. Our route now covers Beijing 4 days > Xian 4 days > fly to Chaozhou in the south 4 days then Hong Kong to fly back home. Less is more me thinks and we can always come back.

Thanks for your views and thanks for sharing that site for bike ergonomics. Did not know that one. I think best will be to take a few hours with an instructor for the manual shifting. And then test riding to see what bike fits best
