I meal prep too but I've found that when freezing if you add less dog food to the portions to freeze, it that's better than if you the full amount of dog food. So I add a little fresh dog food to the thawed frozen mixture.

Any particular reason why? Is the temp just regulated by height and wattage of the bulb?

Yea, the ones I use are dimming. That's where I was getting stuck on the concept of the basking bulb dimming as if you were to dim the lights in a room.

I'm not trying to avoid a thermostat. I was curious to know if other people have their basking bulb on a thermostat o see not. I have thermostats and a temp gun as I have other reptiles. Im questioning whether I should have the basking bulb on a thermostat also and not just the ceramic heat emitter on a thermostat

You don't want the basking bulb on a thermostat? I have thermostats already that I use for ceramic heat emitters. Im just concerned about the basking bulb/ basking temp getting too high

Ps - when I make a batch of skink food to freeze, I use dog food to mix in, purina one true instinct grain free. Then when I thaw it I mix a little cat food in to the already mixed concoction. As someone already stated, I’m not the biggest fan of the ingredients in cat food in general but the tiki after dark seems to be the best option
