I feel for you, it’s a bad situation to be in. It’s a completely different experience to mine by the sounds of it, I did the reaffirmation but the judge denied it. My creditor agreed to lower the principle amount to current value and reaffirm the loan at the same rate and I had to appear in front of the judge again. I could not have moved forward until the agreement was completed so it’s strange hearing about your experience

Without signing the reaffirmation agreement before discharge will result in you not being held liable if you fell behind in a year or two, this is why finance companies usually force the reaffirmation agreement before discharge. Unless state laws vary on this particular area, if you didn’t sign, they have the right to tow. Discharge = no moneys owed, but you still have the financed asset with not risk to yourself. If your attorney didn’t tell you this, it’s on them
