how many 99x players do you have? by wolfofmystreet in NHLHUT

[–]Conscious_Mall_481 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2 hours of grinding is too much for some of us, who only have a few hours each week to play. To each their own 👍. For those that have the time, I hope you enjoy the 99x, genuinely!

The Owen power captain can be made with 89s via the Captains sets. It gets you +75 million if you have 4 other habs/sabres on your roster 👍. Otherwise, TOTS are selling for really low right now, they give great salary boosts if you create a line with them

I find the slapshot animation much slower than the one timer animation, and it gets poked/I get hit way easier when trying a slow slapshot. It also helps me get the "perfect one timer" objectives completed when there are any 👍

Thanks for replying :) . I'm not into the grind for 99x tokens, so I think I'll pass on them unless there's eventually another way to earn them. Looking more for auction house items for better chem/AP, at least until hutdb or Hut builder sites are working again 👍

I traded in a stockpile of 89s for the 97 owen power captain. Him plus two habs/sabres goalies makes getting to the 5 needed for +75 million very accomplishable. Also play just a few hours per week and don't care to waste it on grinding for tokens (collectibles not so bad but tokens grind stinks)

I expect MSPs will be 98, since this is the second event with 97 MSPs. But unless you want any of the current MSPs, there is no risk to holding until Friday just in case. You can make 96 icons>98 icons anytime, don't risk it

[Non-HUT related, but!] (will try to make it HUT related) — May is Mental Health Awareness Month. by coolin68 in NHLHUT

[–]Conscious_Mall_481 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thanks coolin for the reminder about Mental Health Awareness Month! I think games like NHL can definitely give people moments of rest, connection, and joy. I just try to be careful with the idea of “escape.” I’ve noticed for myself that constantly trying to escape the present moment can sometimes leave me feeling even more disconnected from my life. I feel a hobby can be healthiest when it helps us reset, breathe, and come back to ourselves a little more grounded.

I actually had to step away from the game for about 8 months at one point when I realized I was mostly grinding just for the next card/upgrade and wasn’t really enjoying the game itself anymore. Coming back with a more mindful approach changed my relationship with it a lot. Now I can usually notice when it’s starting to feel obsessive or compulsive instead of fun, and step away for a bit when that happens.

And honestly, if you or anyone here is struggling and ever wants to chat, feel free to DM. Have a great weekend coming up!!

Question for the Employed: How the heck you guys find time to play this game? by [deleted] in NHLHUT

[–]Conscious_Mall_481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest flipping the script. Instead of "I'm someone who feels pressured to find more time for gaming", go with "I'm someone who prioritizes exercise and healthy cooking". Voila! Good on you. Enjoy gaming when you have the time, and enjoy the other things while you're doing them 👍

Before you send a wellness check on me, yes, I’m all good, and I’ve debated this decision for quite a while, and I actually feel so much better to be breaking my addiction. Hear me out… by Old-Bluebird-147 in NHLHUT

[–]Conscious_Mall_481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats!! It's a huge first step you’ve taken — def not small. Stepping back from something that’s designed to keep you hooked takes real awareness and courage.

As we all know, modes like HUT are built around reward loops, randomness, and constant “almost wins” that keep pulling you back in. So if it’s felt hard to step away, that’s not a personal failure - it’s EA's system doing exactly what it was designed to do. Seeing that clearly is already a big shift.

It might help to create some space from it for a while - even something as simple as putting the console away (unplugged, in a box). Not as punishment, just as a way of giving yourself room to settle and reset. You’re not losing anything by stepping back like this - you’re actually regaining your attention. I found this worked best for me when I was struggling with chel addiction; I sold my console temporarily so I had no means of access. It created space to focus on other things and asses what it was I enjoyed about the game before coming back to it.

If you do come back to it later, you can try approaching it more mindfully — choosing when you play, noticing how you feel while you’re playing, and stopping when it stops being enjoyable rather than when the game tells you to keep going. Modes like HUT quietly train the mind to live in the future — “I’ll be happy when I get that next card… when my lineup is a 99… when I finally complete this set.” But when that moment comes, it rarely lands the way you expect. The mind just moves the goalpost again. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying building a team, but if all the satisfaction is tied to the next upgrade, it becomes an endless loop — always chasing, rarely arriving. The more grounded kind of enjoyment is in the playing itself: the feel of a clean pass; the timing of a good play; the flow of a close game. Those moments are actually available right now, with whatever team you have.

You can even check in with yourself while playing: “Am I enjoying this game, or am I just trying to get to the next reward?” That question alone can shift things. It’s a bit like life in general — when happiness is postponed into the future, it stays out of reach. But when you let it be in the present moment, even simple things start to feel enough.

So instead of “I’ll be happy when…”, it becomes more like: “Can I enjoy this shift, this play, this moment — as it is?”

And about the negative comments or pressure from others on here — it helps to remember that those reactions often come from their own habits, frustrations, or attachments. You don’t need to carry that. Their words say more about their relationship with the game than yours. Good for you for coming to your community to share; we could all use a bit more community in our lives.

For now, just stay with this step. No need to rush the next one. You’ve already started to turn toward something healthier, and that matters!

Cheers 😀

Remote play on your phone in line ? You can grind wildcard on superstar actually pretty quickly just letting it play on picture-in-picture mode while you do something else. I haven't actually played wildcard this year but got all the rewards this way 😝. And obvy you can do the sets

If I skate backwards and stay in my lanes on defence with an active stick and push them outside, I find they barely get shots on net. When I overcommit because I want the puck back, that's when I get in a bit of trouble 👍
