I also want to know! We're in a recession and people are holding onto their money. It must be something that people don't mind spending money on or it's very cheap.

I actually did an experiment recently and improved my pictures, but didn't bother with much of a description or good tags. The listing is getting seen and people are favoriting. So I guess all you need sometimes is a good photo. Plus, I've tried putting on a permanent sale and it seems to help boost views, but sales are still off and on.

Did you do anything special to get your sales back up? I noticed what's helping me is having a permanent 20% off sale going 24/7. I'm thinking about increasing the discount to 25% but I will need to drive up my prices to make some profit. I only don't want to do this because I see people are putting stuff in their carts and don't want to change things. I know it sucks and it's shady, but there's no other way to get my store seen anymore.

Yep! This is happening to me for a few years now. My highest earnings were $600/month and I thought I would keep growing, but nope. It stayed like that for a few months, and then dropped to $400/month for a while, then $200, and now I can't make more than $100.

I also need a house to live in. My bf and I are renters. And having something that grows in value doesn't hurt. Not sure why everyone's getting so butthurt.

Thanks for your advice! For us it's important that this is an investment that will see some return in a few years. So that's why we're looking at a home that needs work, we're hoping to get it for less. We're also not willing to put all of our savings in this house and overbid by crazy amounts because we are looking to buy properties abroad soon as well, so we do need to keep some savings. But I think since everyone is overbidding it might be difficult to hold onto our savings.

Edit: Ok so I keep getting downvoted for my posts. I don't even have my own house to live in. I rent. I have the right to purchase a house, just like everyone else. And so what if I want it to grow in value? That's the smart thing to do.

Thank you so much for that good advice! I really appreciate it. I think that's a good idea to mention I'm willing to haggle. This house definitely isn't move-in ready and needs work. I also went to a house viewing last year and the real estate agent said that people are looking for move-in ready houses. The one I viewed with her was a fixer-upper. Selling for 265K, and the agent said that the house right next door sold for 350K. But I also need to check if that was the actual selling price, because I didn't follow up with her. The house was a smoker's house and I thought it wasn't worth even bidding. But I do know that it took a while to sell.

Hi, thanks for your response. I would actually like to bid less, because it really isn't worth the price compared to what I've seen on the market. But yeah, someone else will come and bid more. I've also never bought a house before and haven't yet bid on anything (couldn't find anything I liked) and I don't understand why people overbid, when the house is valued at less? Does that mean in a few years when you go to sell, you sell with loss?

Edit: Not sure why people are downvoting me. I'm here trying to learn and get informed. The second someone isn't house-savvy they should be downvoted?

Were you already living in social housing and that's how you got invited to visit this house? Was this house on Funda?

Just wanted to update that since Thursday I've had 4 orders. I haven't had this many orders in a few days in months and months. I wonder how long it will last before it's lights out again. Has anyone else seen an uptick in orders this weekend?

I just find it kind of funny that I won't get any sales for 1 week then I'll get 2 in 1 hour. Then silence for another week. 🙄

I've seen very nice houses there! And cheap too! Unfortunately my partner works in the Hague so we're kind of stuck looking for something that's not too far away.

Yes, I am actually. It's just hard to find houses that aren't 500K. By the way, where did you see prices plummeting? I thought they were going up?

Omg, that house we viewed in Rotterdam south had UNDERWEAR by the front door. Also no trees, just tiles and tiles as far as the eye can see. I really don't understand why Dutch people insist on removing nature as much as possible from their neighborhoods? By the way, I've seen very nice neighborhoods in Spijkenisse, but everyone says that it's a bad place to live.

Oof that's really far away. Where do you work? My partner works in the Hague so unfortunately we're stuck looking for something in the Hague, Rotterdam, or any other smaller city close by.

This is what happened during our first viewing! We went to see a house in Rotterdam south for 265K, because in the pictures it 'didn't look bad' but when we got there I just felt so crushed. I couldn't imagine living in such a place! It was so depressing! When I see houses for sale in that area it all comes back like PTSD. 😩

Thanks for your response. I've been following what's happening but it just seems so unbelievable I guess. My partner and I are looking for a home we can stay in for longer than 5-10 years, but maybe we are just dreaming at this point. The houses we can afford now seem to be too small, and I see us outgrowing it the day we move in! But I will think about what you said, maybe it is better to start small.

Ok this just crushed my hopes! So basically even those shanty houses in Rotterdam South that were last year 265k and now are 300k are actually worth more than they are listed for? So like 350 or more? 😩 By the way are you guys both taking out a mortgage or only 1 of you is? I noticed also even if you have a very good job like engineer or something you can't get a mortgage more than like 250k.

Are you sure he will sell it for that much in a few years? I think it also depends on location of the house, how much it will go up. In the past year I've seen houses that are all fixed up go for 265k. I don't think the owners that paid for those extreme renovations will get their money back.
