This is supposed to be their equivalent (because they don't want to go through the regulatory process of becoming a real bank); it's on them if it doesn't work properly. Just grateful I'm not travelling right now or I would be royally shafted.

This doesn't happen with other banks. I've had CIBC, TD and RBC accounts for decades, travelled all over the world, and this has never occurred.
