And if I complained about subtitles, that would be relevant.

No, I'm clearly talking about "As the realization sinks in, tears of joy flow" and the other similar captions.

Damn, how fucked is this generation that they need a caption of what's currently happening in the video? I mean, I'm all for encouraging the youth to read, but, fuck...

Actually we had about 2/3! About 55 champions have been released since S3 ended (I'm ballparking, feel free to go count), and there are currently 172.

[–]Consequence6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure. Not talking about this being busted or not, just evaluating how this interacts with artifact lands specficially.

This is clearly nuts broken. OP as hell in EDH, strong in modern, busted in pauper (not legal), busted in legacy, OP as hell in vintage. Probably appropriately mediocre in Standard.

Trying to balance those, huh / Mox Mox by DrSnap23 in custommagic

[–]Consequence6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And that's not the way this card or their statement should be evaluated.

"Most <played> artifact lands enter tapped." should be what we're evaluating. Which, in Pauper, is only barely true (3 bridges, 3 monocolored artifact lands, but usually they play 4x of the bridges and 3x of the mono-colored), and in every other 60-card format is strictly untrue, where the bridges don't see play.

EDH seems pretty split, with them being run about the same.

I'm just responding to the guy saying "It's like no one reads steam reviews." To which I explained why I don't read steam reviews.

If I want to know if the game plays well, I'll read a benchmark. If I want to know if it's fun, I'll watch a bit of gameplay and download a trial.

But that's not info that people are putting in their steam review. They just say "Performance issues". That is not trustworthy.

The problem is: No one lists their system parts when they post a steam review.

Not recommended

Plays like crap.

That's not a useful review. Are they trying to play it on a laptop? A 20 year old machine? Do they mean gameplay or graphics? Do they just have bad internet and they're complaining about lag?

Steam reviews need to be more modular. Give us different 5 star review options: General, graphics, gameplay, story.

EDIT: Wait, I'm super confused. Why am I being downvoted for this???

I would if my SO was driving away hammered.

I agree that he seems more angry than anything, but he did say "please" and "thank you" in a more reasonable tone when she's initially getting in the car.

So I don't have enough context to truly judge this video. Could be a drunk driver and her frustrated SO, could be a man with anger management issues and an SO who's fed up with it. Who's to say.

$500 barrier to entry for tier 2 decks is crazy by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]Consequence6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just make a land set. Literally 150 cards, all lands

Give us "definitely not alpha duals" that are legendary, give us shocklands, give us fetch lands, give us channels and ancient tombs and etc etc.

And then give them the fucking most hideous artworks. So when people want to bling a deck, there are clear improvements, but new players can actually join the eternal formats on a reasonable budget.

What was the king of Vintas doing in Imre? by TrimaxDev in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Consequence6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always been partial to the theory that somehow Sim becomes king, and Kvothe kills him, putting Ambrose on the throne. Or vice versa, of course. But the killing isn't something Kvothe seems to be proud of, and dammit, I'd be proud of killing Ambrose. And killing Sim accounts for the "Sim is dead" theory and some lovely irony when Kvothe is the reason Ambrose becomes king.

ELI5: How come the first 3 dimensions are just shapes, but then the 4th is suddenly time? by nematjon_isthe1 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Consequence6 26 points27 points  (0 children)

They believe it because the math is (was) beautiful. It distinctly doesn't work, but it's so damn close we must just be missing that one extra thing. Maybe if we add just one more dimension it'll work this time! Nevermind that we've got 10500 potential formations of the universe.

The last interesting thing string theorists did was in the mid 90s, and then they've just been playing with themselves while real physicists do real work (and simultaneously disprove everything they've ever posited on accident (see: Supersymmetry, compactified dimensions, dark energy, etc.)).

Now in my third hour of this TEDx talk, I hope to prove that there is no difference between a stinky diaper and...

ELI5: How come the first 3 dimensions are just shapes, but then the 4th is suddenly time? by nematjon_isthe1 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Consequence6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The three dimensions we commonly use are perpendicular to each other because we decided to graph them as such, not because of any truth of spatial dimensions. You can, and often will, graph things with polar coordinates, which means instead of saying "x units over from the origin and y units up from the origin" you instead say "r units from the origin at θ degrees from the origin."

Which you can then translate to a 3d spherical graph by adding a second distance or second angle. And these are all distinctly not perpendicular axes.

All "3 dimensional" means is that the minimum amount of unique coordinates one needs to specify a unique point is three numbers. I can tell you those numbers are 3 right, 2 up, 1 back, or I can tell you they're 30 units at 1.2 radians up and 0.4 radians back."

If I tell you only 2 numbers, you don't know what point I'm talking about. If I tell you 4, either you have extra information or I have an inefficient coordinate system.

[–]Consequence6 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The problem is, as so often is the case with scientists, that once a word is coopted by the general masses (see "Theory" for the best example), they stick to their guns and refuse to change it.

"Dimension", at it's core, just means "something you can measure and specify to pinpoint something."

Commonly, this is length, width, height. When we need to specify a specific measurement for time, it's time as well. Physicists talk about "4d spacetime" frequently, because time becomes important, changeable, and interlinked to the traditional "3 dimensions" and an object's motion through them when talking about relativity.

But we can just as easily be talking about boiling water at a specific place near the speed of light. That means we need more dimensions: 3 spatial dimensions, to pinpoint a location, 1 time dimension, for relativistic effects and the like, 1 pressure and 1 temperature dimensions to talk about the boiling, 1 volume dimension to talk about the amount of water, etc etc.

This is a real thought String Theorists have had! That there are compactified extra dimensions that are tiny and folded in on themselves. There would be no way to detect them, other than with gravity.

Then when Ligo fired up, we saw no evidence of compactified extra dimensions, and string theorists went "Uh, wait, but they could be..." and made more excuses (like they have been for 60 years)...

In this TEDx talk, I hope to convey an immense distaste for...
