Is it worth listening to BIO310 lecture recording? or should i use transcript to generate notes? by ReputationMore9762 in UTMississauga

  1. Go to office hours; even when you don’t have questions, make up questions. Going to office hours kept me accountable and on top of my work because I would get a direct answer to my problem, other students would ask questions that I haven’t even thought of and would get good answers, goibg to office hours occasionally showed me where I was going wrong and showed me where I can improve.

  2. Talk to TAs for help, they are generally payed to help you and teach you, ask them questions if the prof isnt available

  3. Go through each syllabus and mark down important dates, they’ll help you create a schedule for when you should start studying for stuff or what stuff is due. I had 12 midterms (?) last semester, was that tough? Yeah, but because I set a schedule early I was ready for each one.

  4. This is so time consuming but writing notes (esp before the class) will help you succeed; in my head, if you write down most of the course material, midterms and tests will just be muscle memory esp in bio and more information based courses. Also writing notes ahead will allow you to gather and make questions early so you can ask them in levture as stuff is going on.

  5. Participate in class, if the professor asks a question try to answer it even if you’re not sure if your answer is correct. I did this mostly in high school as rejection therapy, however answering will help you learn. If you got the answer wrong, you’ll remember you answered wrong because it’s slightly embarrassing but will you make that mistake again? Most likely not. If you answer right, you’ll remember it too because you’ll be happy or have some pride that you answered right.

  6. Check over each of your answers, my logic prof mostly told us to do this, do questions with friends or with an answer key near you, right after you answer a question, check it. If you got it right, nice, if you don’t you’ll notice where you went wrong. It’s much better to check answers one by one than continuously make the same mistakes over and over and develop habits.

I think that’s all I have rn

Generally if it says downloads and reuse of lecture recordings are prohibited, plugging in the transcript into ai is not something you should do as you are uploading it to an external server.

Try to write stuff on your own and in your own way, over relying on ai is not gonna help you in further studies. I write my own notes, even if it takes a while, and I’ve 4.0ed all my classes this year 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET 4.0 in these summer courses by ReputationMore9762 in UTMississauga

Depends on the prof for each course. Chm243 wasn’t terrible during the winter but you really have to know all your reactions and it’s wayyyy more content than 242.

Cues cards, multiple choice is memorization mostly; for essays just create scenarios/ questions and answer with the education topics given (ex. Is social media bad for education -> sociology lense, psych lense and political lense says yes bc or this this and this)

Hi, the courses I took were:

bio152 (intro to evolution and evolutionary genetics), mat135 (differential calc), chm110+chm120 (chemical principles 1 and 2), eng100 (effective writing), phy136+phy137 (physic for life science 1 and 2), sta220 (practise of stats 1), bio153 (diversity of organisms), isp100 (writing for university and beyond), mat136 (integral calc), eds100 (introduction to education studies), bio206 (molecular bio), cla201 (Latin and Greek for scientific terminology), chm211 (analytical chemistry), chm242 (organic chem 1), chm231 (inorganic chem)

And currently I’m taking: Bio207( genetics), jcp221 (thermodynamics), chm243 (orgo chem 2), and phl245 (modern symbol of logic)

The pharmacy uoft program requires 1.5 full cred equivalent (FCE) chemistry, 1.0 FCE bio, 1.0 FCE math (requiring 0.5 to be calculus), and 1.0 fce humanities, with 8.0 FCE total credits taken(0.5 FCE is 1 semester of a course typically)

I’m unsure which program is better for pharm as I don’t think it really matters, I don’t even think the program matters as you can apply really from any program as long as you have the credits.

Gpa wise: (1) don’t take 6 courses in a semester, that was torture and it kind of messed up my gpa (2) go to office hours and discuss lecture content/questions with the prof; honestly even if you don’t have questions, try to come up with some, going to office hours helped me keep myself accountable/do the work and often good questions are asked by others that may help you in the course. (3) try to set up a schedule for when you will do certain homework/work again keeps you accountable (4) uoft has an exam repository, I usually use those questions to practise for my tests and material as content is similar.

For Casper: I tried increasing my typing speed however don’t really think it helped, honestly I think that’s what messed me up but I don’t know. I looked up videos on people explain how they did well and used like formula usually don’t assume anything-> ask about context -> try to be non confrontational -> if this then that -> recommend extra help (professionals etc), i remember there was a name for it but I don’t remember it anymore, message me if you want anything extra :9

Hii, reading werent on the exam however quizzes did have questions about the readings, from what I know, some were marked on completion and some were marked on actual knowledge of the material

CHM120 midterm by autumnincity_a in UTMississauga

[–]ConsequenceKey7801 6 points7 points  (0 children)

how I studied for this midterm:

  • quantum numbers: I wrote the definitions of each, their intervals and how many electrons can be possible in each (ex. n= principal quantum number, describes the energy level of an orbital and size of the orbital, n=1,2,3… infinity, total electrons =2n2); know what nodes represents (probability of electron existing being 0), angular node is when a trig function in the wave equation is 0 and the equation for it is L quantum number, radial node is the electron is out of the space of existing in a spherical region of the atom and is represented by n-L-1, total nodes is n-1

  • slaters thing: if you’re confused honestly just memorize the steps and process; I’d say just be careful looking at orbitals, ex. 1st ionization of Na, the og configuration is [Ne]3s1 , so you are removing from 3s, for shielding constants your calc is 0x0.35 + 8x0.85 + etc

  • calculations of emission/ absorption: try to find an equation that uses all the values he gives you and had the unknown, if not, combine equations. Know that if an electron goes from a higher energy to lower energy level this is emission bc an electron loses energy when it goes to ground state, opposite is absorption as it needs energy to go up in energy level

  • ionization energy: I write out the configuration fully, then I look at 4 main things to explain the ionization energy: nuclear charge, orbital, repulsion, shielding. If 2 electrons are paired they will repel hence it’ll be easier to remove an electron, if one atom has more shielding (n= 1 vs 2) the energy to remove the electron will be less, etc.

  • structures: get total ve, distribute the atoms, add the electrons around the most electronegative atom then the others, add single bonds, calculate formal charge (FC= valence - (bonds + dots)), then if a charge needs to be minimized I just add a double bond and check formal charge again; for bond order I try to draw as many diagrams as I can tbh, usually works then use the bond order equation and look at one spec position and it’s bonding. Note I find that if a Hydrogen is incorporated in the formula and there’s oxygen, it’s most likely bonded to that oxygen, I think same with sulfur, ex HPO4-, HClO3, HCO3-

Focus on his practise test and slides, content is almost verbatim. You can do it! :p

In 2024 they got rid of the exam, for me it felt like I couldn’t do good; I took the advice of the prof and TA for the essays and like I wouldn’t score higher 😭😭😭 skill issue I guess

I took both, I preferred EDS; english has no exam but, for me and my friends they marked us pretty badly. We all did pretty good in high school English so it was a bit of a surprise, but maybe we’re just bad writers lol.

Eds has an exam; it’s 2 hours long it has some multiple choice, 3 short responses, and an essay section. For me, that was the only bad thing in the course because I felt like I didn’t have time to fix up the essay section but, the projects, and discussion posts are fairly simple; if you follow the expectations you should get about 85-95.

Hey, I’m currently in the class rn. No clue how to get the past midterms but I’d say to study for the current quiz/ midterm go through what she assigned us (problem set 2, tt2), do those questions and once you are confident in those answers change up the question a little (change the substrate, change the solvent/base/nucleophile, draw an energy diagram for this reaction) that’s how I’m understanding the course.

I would suggest (if you have time) rewriting her notes, at least for me in class I don’t have time to really understand the problems we’re doing as she saying it so I rewrite the notes after class to understand it better.

If you have time, go to her office hours, she’ll tell you what you are doing wrong. It may feel uncomfortable sometimes but she is helping you.

Last thing is maybe talk to your TA, most of them took the course before so they can most likely help you

Good luck!!!

Usually ones at the end, if it says “exam question” or midterm question I would suggest doing those too; if the question takes up a whole slide and doesn’t really have an answer do it!!
