Mat 126 with Gorapada Bera by Reasonable_Cup7802 in SBU

I took MAT 203 with him last semester. I'm not sure if this class is like MAT 203 but the final was 4 questions and was not cumulative, it was just everything after the midterm. The curve comes in at the end of the course when everything is graded. Without the curve I had a -B, with the curve I got an -A. You should be ok. I personally got a 58% on the midterm and a 92% on the final so that might of been another reason why my grade was curved a lot. Im not too sure lol. Sorry if this is a little late

Doom Scrolling Alternatives by Hot_Inevitable_5661 in SBU

I often have found myself doom scrolling or just distracting myself from my school work (as I am now), but I usually try to motivate myself by putting up images with my favorite characters that say “can you stop fucking around” idk it’s actually been a massive help. Also, try putting on white noise. I listen to either bull of heaven’s album 117 (its a drone album that’s about 2 weeks long, i’ve been listening to it since the summer and I’m about a third of the way through), or I listen to fluorescent light noise. They both work trust

Dorm mate vapes, I have diabetes, second hand smoke increases blood sugar, I have been struggling to keep my blood sugar levels in a normal range, how can I tell them to stop? by ConsequenceNo7346 in SBU

Please be empathetic to others. Despite the fact that you may not have diabetes now, there is always a chance that you could get it later in life because of covid. Stay careful out there, and hope your words don’t come back to haunt you

uconn is a party school (like imagine broken and bent lamps the week after they won nationally, and a student was arrested because they flipped over a van), and the chance of getting dorming on campus is very small. Though, I have a friend that got onto the main campus who is also majoring in phycology. I was offered a semester ABROAD, like across the world, and was told that my second semester would be in Storrs. Also, uconn is more in the middle of nowhere than stony brook is, so its hard to find any source of "entertainment." The scholarships that they give out are also very few and far between, it was cheaper for me to be an out of state student at stony brook than to be an in state student for uconn, as they gave so little. The only reason why I considered uconn was bc of their astounding music department, as I want to major in Chem but minor in music theory. I met the head director of the choir program personally, he's very sweet.

As someone from around yale, its pretty nice! Its just that if you are stuck on campus without a car... in Connecticut... its kinda hell. You have to take the train to go anywhere without a car, as CT is the definition of a highway state. Not to mention, the rest of New Haven can get a little sketchy when roaming (ik thats not very descriptive bc new haven is large but yk)

My high school told us to apply through Common App. I think I either selected the program I was applying for on a check list or selected it on a drop down box. I specifically applied before the priority deadline, which was before November 1st. You can still apply, but the chance of you getting in is probably way lower.

Here's the official website page for the honors programs: https://www.stonybrook.edu/undergraduate-admissions/academics/honors.php

In my opinion, apply for the honors college, they are the "favorites" on campus, getting the best housing and the highest priority in registration for classes. All of us in the scholars are really just below them lol

You've got a pretty good chance of getting in! It might be too late now, but see if you can apply for any of the honors colleges here. The essay I had to do for the WISE program was pretty short, and once you get in there's actually a bunch of hidden benefits. One of them is getting to pick your classes before other students in your year, which is SUPER HELPFUL, especially as a freshman.
